What I was able to catch of his play the past 4 days he looks real good and I hope he can return. He had 18 birdies and only 7 bogeys all week.

Daly is out of professional golf for six months, comes out and shoots a 69,69,69, and 66 and finishes second.

If you can't see the good in that, there is no helping you.

John's life on and off the course has been well documented - bottom line, Daly is good for golf - in some crazy, messed up way.

I have mixed reactions to John Daly's performance. First, I hope this shows that he has reformed his ways, and will play up to his potential consistently. Everyone---including Butch Harmon, Tiger, Johnny Miller, etc. acknowledge that Big John has talent, including his touch around the greens. Second, my fear is that this is another "step forward" to be followed by "two or three steps backward", as has occurred in the past. So many people have tried to help him---Fuzzy, Butch Harmon, Eli Callaway, etc, and they finally had to give up on him. He has obsessive-compulsive tendencies that are self-destructive. Hopefully, he has them under control, but I am cautiously optimistic.

I don't want to discount John's good showing this week, but it is worth mentioning that most of the top European players were at the TPC this week, reducing the strength of the field in Italy. That being said, John's work with Rick Smith, losing 40+ pounds and new Adams equipment have made an impact. Let's see how Big John does when he returns to the US at Memphis!
