over in Ireland it rains like 4/7 days a week so often get wet playing golf.

on Saturday got totally drenched, grips, gloves wetgear completely soaked through but had to keep going in a competition.

its gets really difficult to keep control the club and grip especially at impact.

anyone any playings tips or strategies that they use when playing golf in the rain? adapt game plan?

Be well prepared. Water-proof jacket and pants, light and discrete. An umbrella is useful for keeping the bag from getting soaked, this will also keep the grips dry. A towel or two of course. You can tie one towel to the inside of the umbrella to keep it from getting wet so you can clean and wipe clubhead and grips.

Buy good gloves and dry both hands when they get wet. Carry a spare or two glove in the bag so you can change if it gets soaked. Taking off the glove to let it get some air between shots is also useful. Keeps it dry much longer, don't store it somewhere it can get wet either. Under the umbrella or in a jacket pocket.

Play the same game you normally do. I play a lot in the rain and it's actually cool if you're prepared and got good clothes so you don't get wet. Good shoes is also important. Most players use a cap on the course, use it in rain too, useful for keeping the face clear of direct rain and water dripping from the hair and forehead.

The rain gloves is a must, you don't have to worry about wet grips because
they work better the wetter the grip. You have to wet them before you start playing with them.Get them, its like playing in the dry.Footjoy makes them, there like $20 but will last a long time.

its been raining its butt off the past few weeks...
i need a good pair of rain pants...
other than that... lots of towels... bag umbrella and my umbrella... water resistant shoes... etc etc etc... all around rain gear that keeps everything dry or at least tacky so it wont slip... and definately a cap with a bill that keeps the rain out of your eyes...
as for strategies... consider any low ground a water hazard and avoid hitting into it

I think playing in the rain is hilarious. I can barely keep my hands on the club. I know there are gloves and grips but I usually just hope that it doesn't rain.
What I don't understand is how people putt on saturated greens. I remember killing the ball on a 10 foot putt in the rain and having it come up three feet short. Water was shooting up off the ball ten inches into the air.

I have bought the gloves for rain. I then let the grips get as wet as possible and don't worry. Next, play as often as possible in the rain to get used to being wet, then take more club and swing easy.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

The quickest and most cost efficient thing to do is buy a pair of rain gloves. There are numerous manfs. Get the type that instruct you to keep them soaked with water for best results.

For just damp and/or humid conditions, then I'd say to regrip your sticks with full corded grips. These do exceptionally well around here. I prefer them over everthing else now that it's getting in the 90's during many rounds here.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
