I have seen a lot of posts from guys who have a low handicap and they mostly sound like a bunch of elitist A-holes. I have read some posts that demean the high handicapper and condemn him for not being able to break 100 or 90, stating that he must not care enough to get better. Is anyone else sick of this as well?

Care to link some?

I haven't caught on to too much arrogance. I more usually see the low handicappers slapping each other around. However, I haven't been here for very long.

Coming from the guy whose home courses are at Horseshoe Bay. Give me a break...

sorry, I don't read posts by people that can't break 90.

Golf is a game in which the ball always lies poorly and the player always lies well.

I'd like to echo the request for a link, because I have pretty much the opposite experience. I've been on this board since shortly after I started playing golf and have been helped immensely by the better players here.

In fact, aside from my actual swing instructor, the most help I got in breaking 90 was advice on this board from Ben and Erik.

I'd like to see a link too, tbh. I have yet to see a high handicapper here treat anyone else with anything but respect.

I can partially see where ramrockgolfer35 is coming from but I think he may be looking at it from the wrong perspective...

I am one of those people who have not broken 100 and I have been treated with nothing but respect and when I have a question it gets answered quickly and appropriately. Where I do see some elitist feelings towards the people who do not 'break 100/90/whatever' are the strict rules snobs. Most people just ask rules questions and get clarification, but there are some out there who come across as if you don't use the rule book as a second bible and have the thing memorized you should stay off the course. (I'm sure this is not how the people feel, but it is how it comes across).

I am a recreational golfer and play with my friends on the weekend. I do not participate in any events and we all play by our rules. 1 mulligan on the front and 1 on the back, if you are only a few feet OB use a foot wedge and hit from IB with no penalty. This is how I play and I am happy with it. I just disregard the comments of the people who don't like it.

But there also needs to be some concessions made from 'my' style of golfer. Don't go around saying you shot an 82 and beat your friend who actually played by the rules and shot an 85.

There is room on the course for both of us, and I think most people realize that.

Quite a few of the posters you are talking about are in the severe negative reputation from a toxic thread or two. There are a few people here as there are on any Internet forum that use their anoninimity to be jerks.

After a bit of time you will notice who rubs you the wrong way and will just start to skip their posts as they typically add very little to the discussion, and their toxic comments often go ignored by the rest of the board.

I'm a arrogant dick on the golf course (and off, to people who like talking about how good their new Top Flite (sp) Gamers are). I dont like playing with people who don't hit 80% to 85% of there fairways and greens. When you start never shootin over 80 chances are you will gain some arrogance, even Furyks a cocky bitch but he can be 'cus he hits the ball well. You 15+ handicappers don't know what its like to shoot a below par round or even hit all your putts and get up and down every hole, therefore why would you want to be arrogant over a game you are struggling in.

Agree?

edit: I often see 15+ handicappers giving tips, I IMMEDIATELY skip over them, I look back to when I was there and laugh at the thought of me giving a tip to someone. I feel those tips by double digit handicappers are just as of a useless post as to a nonsense post such as "my swing speed is 300mph I had NASA fine tune my shaft".

Thankfully I have only encountered golf arrogance online. Only a little bit on this forum, but it's definitely there. I do have one thread in particular in mind but I won't link to it and throw any members under the bus.

I imagine that I avoid a lot of it by playing cheap courses and having decent friends ;)

I can't say that I agree. Golf is a diverse game that can be enjoyed and played at all levels and ages. I am not particularly fond of slow play where it relates to lack of ready golf, but I don't expect everyone to strike the ball pure. Granted, I am not a low handicapper. My Grandpa was a horrible golfer, but he loved to play and kept pace.

I haven't noticed any arrogance from lower handicappers, if anything they are the most helpful!

I think that it's easy to be arrogant sometimes on the golf course, but I've played with people much worse than me (although I'm not great) who take forever without a problem. I think it's because I'm having fun playing golf.

Please tell me that you're just kidding and are only trying to be funny here. Even someone as young as you, must have a bit more maturity than that. At least I'd hope so. Agree?

I'm the same way. I figure that as long as I'm on a golf course, I'm having fun. I'm in no rush to hit my shots. I keep up with the group in front, but I don't care if they're going slowly.

And honestly? I know I'm new, but I really hope that never changes. I really, really hope I can avoid becoming an impatient golfer and can continue to simply enjoy being on the course.

Me thinks the thread is due to something specific and not a general condition on the forum. In general, this is a pretty nice group and I surely prefer it to a couple of other choices for that reason.

I know I always try to be nice to everyone, except any of those "other people" who have above single digit handicaps or those who are not members of exclusive country clubs and eat cake. I think it is important for our club blazers to be worn in the club at all times and that we remove our hat when entering the pro shop. I say, old chum, make that a gin and tonic since no beer allowed in the changing room. And please, shine those shoe with a little more elbow grease this time. Bring my car around front, but leave the clubs in my locker. Oh, and here's a Quarter for your troubles.

(just kidding.)

Please tell me that you're just kidding and are only trying to be funny here.

First of all I would like to praise you for shooting a Nickent, those babies are sweet.

Secondly I would like to know where my lack of maturity is. Please elaborate on what you disagree with. Around here the only way you can escape a 5 hour round is playing at clubs or paying 66$. Therefore I have no love for high handicappers and thank my high paying job for allowing me to play under 4 hour rounds.
