It reminds me of my childhood in the seventies. My dad would occasionaly invite his golf buddies over for a beer and they all had these loud golf pants on.

ESPN Classic had reruns of old US OPEN tourneys on the other day. I turned it on when they were at Baltustrol in 1980 when Nicklaus won. The pants were friggin awesome! Not only obnoxious but TIGHT!

He's lost weight. Smoking himself thin?

He had some kind of surgery and is on a strict diet. It is interesting that the two most talked about events in golf recently are the return of TW and the return of John Daly.

Daly makes great theater. A red neck kid, who was told he could never make it with the swing he had, goes to the top of the game then takes a long ugly tumble to the bottom. Now he attempts to rise up from ashes. SubPar

Yeah, I think he had that Lap-Band stomach surgery a few months ago.

It's actually quite a smart move for him wearing those pants. He's getting a lot of positive (for once) spotlight focused on him, even if it is for something as trivial as clothing. He created a big splash for himself. I mean, the guy finished T59th this weekend, and he's what people are talking about.

I would wear some wild pants but only with a white shirt. I think they are goofy and I like that.

58-inch 1080i widescreen TV in HD ... I had to wear sunglasses every time Daly came on screen ... HAHAHAHA

I wouldn't wear pants like that fishing ... and I don't fish.

There are local non-disturbance ordinances that would prevent me from wearing these pants, not to mention my wife would refuse to be seen in the same foursome.

But seriously, while I have criticized John for wasting his enormous talent, and maybe it's just a matter of time before he falls off the wagon again, I'm not going to fault his clothing judgments when he has shown his willingness to stand behind people regarding the really important stuff (Amy Mickelson) when he didn't have to say or do anything. Means much more to me than listening to Kenny Perry complain about others should be playing more tour events.

In the imortal words of Al Czervik "Oh, it looks good on you though."

Love the pants, love the whole line. They aren't for everyone, that's for sure. Would he look better if his gut wasn't hanging over the belt? Probably, but you at least have to give him credit for losing the 62 pounds he has already shed. Look, his pants are at least as stylish as the stuff Brian Gay is wearing. Nobody gives him a hard time... To me, if your name is "Gay" you shouldn't be wearing bright lime green or orange pants. (Yes, I know Gay is married)

I have a few pairs of the less obnoxious shorts from Loud Mouth Golf - John's sponsors - and I love them. They recently hosted a tournament at Ginn Reunion Resort where every participant got a pair of pants from Loud Mouth. You have never seen such a site as what I saw on the driving range that morning. It was like I had woken up in 1974 in Johnny Miller's twilight zone!

Awesome, JR. I love them too, the shorts the most. Don't think I could wear the long pants, but the shorts for sure. Pricey, though.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
