Yes.

As long as he also wore long pants over top of the shorts.

thanks... still having trouble understanding why since it isn't a PGA tour event and the PGA has no role in governing the event.

PGA Tour players are welcome to wear shorts at the U.S. Open ... provided they are not competing. For example, Davis Love III is not in this year's Open - if he purchases a ticket and is a spectator, he could wear shorts if he were so inclined. But if you're on the playing in the Open, or any other professional event, you wear pants. I'm not sure the exact regulation - Payne Stewart's pants look to me like they weren't as long as the rest of the group. There was some qualifier back at the Sony Open that wanted to wear shorts, and had to go change.

Wasn't too long ago, caddies wore pants too.

Three groups in question:

- The USGA maintains the rules of golf and governs amateur golf in the United States (and possibly Mexico). They run many of our national championships in the United States. - The PGA - not to be confused with the PGA Tour. They certify teaching pros and do lots of the "behind the scenes" work that allow you and me to enjoy the sport we love. While there are some people who are members of both, professionals are generally in one or the other. - the PGA Tour - used to be part of the PGA, but this changed a couple dozen years ago. They oversee most of the events you see week in and week out, but not the four majors.

Nope...Personally I think that's the dumbest rule ever. It's very unfair too, because the LPGA let the ladies where skirts. (No, I'm NOT saying I would want to wear a skirt, and I DO like seeing the ladies where them!!) But some guys prefer shorts, (I do) and should be able to wear them . What possible reason could there be to not let them, anyway? I have always wondered. Is it some kind of ettiquette/decency thing? Pretty dumb.

Just my guess, but here goes: The US Open is ran by the USGA, British Open is ran by the R&A;, The Masters is ran by Augusta National, and the PGA Championship is ran by the PGA of America. The PGA Tour does not run any of Golf's Major Championships, but all four majors are part of the Official PGA Tour Schedule and count towards Fedex Cup points and official money won! Since they are part of the PGA Tour schedule all dress code rules should apply to the Majors the same as any other tour event. But hey, Stenson couldn't keep his pants on and he didn't get in trouble,,,lol

It is because they are trying to maintain a professional image and despite what we like to wear, shorts are deemed by the tour to be "unseemly". Do you see doctors and lawyers and stockbrokers wearing shorts to work?

Yeah, that's why I didn't start playing this game until I was 24, and even then a friend had to twist my arm for weeks.. the old booshie, snobby, Biff and Buffy image. What is so "seemly" about wearing tight, thin white pants on national television? "Camera 1: get a closeup on that guy's tighty-whiteys while he's putting" lol you get the picture, noone needs to see that haha. But calves and socks are a no-no..what's next, no tatoos, long hair, or beards? You gotta remember, these were the same people that frowned upon different classes and races of people playing the game. Times have changed.

I think you take the dress code way to seriously. It's only pants. Geesh.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

But you don't have to wear long pants. The rule is only for pros.

Why should that concern you? And why adopt the "thin edge of the wedge" stance? What do you mean "what's next"? It's not a recent development.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
