Today had access to a launch monitor -using my 7 I ,(x22's 6.0 rifle ) this was the result -most swing speeds were in the 78 -81 MPH range :
179 181 165 167 171 143 132 129 176 155 152 138 161 145 149 161 148 173 165 143 149 129 171 168 162 143 ......
two observers see no change in my tempo or swing -some small differences shown in the launch angle category .So after 8 months of golf I have no real distance based on these results -making play tedious and difficult .I figure my 7 I for 165 on the course but as you can see I am long /short /on ??????.. how can I get more stable -I don't think that I am swing harder or faster to me -I am amazed because they all FEEL the same -the only difference i can feel is that on the longer shots my contact seems Softer ?? Thanks in advance for any ideas !

A shot feeling soft is for me the sign that I'm relaxed with my wrists and arms, not trying to kill the ball.

Were you fitted for the PX6.0's? I have a swing speed in the 80's and the pro was suggesting I go with 5.5's. Use some impact tape and try to see where your shots hitting on the clubface.

practice making solid contact with your irons is the only explaination for the inconsistent distances.

When you play a round shoot for the back of the green and if you miss hit it you will still be short but on the green.

You need solid striking, hit a 7 180 and drop to 130,inconsistent ball striking.

Yeah there's no way you can be hitting the solid and hitting the ball on the center of the face and have an inconsistency of up to 40 yards with one club.

Yes -that is exactly what I am asking ..... "hitting Solid" -when I have used impact tape I would say 75% are on the sweet spot the balance a bit towards the toe.But I have this issue with

all my clubs. My driver will run between 235 carry and 280 ish ??????? Two pros at the course I play have both said that it is simply a timing issue.....my 3 wood averages in the carry range of 200-240!...PW 125 to 145 ..but I do practice like a crazy fool ---I would bet that I hit 200/300 balls a day (recently retired and have the time )and never see any distance consistency improvment . One friend says I am practicing too much -??? So I guess my question is HOW do you practice timing ?? For the record I do realize that I am only 8 months into the game but this is frustrating enough to make me quit .I step up to every shot and my brain is saying --Oh Boy -will this be too long or too short ..........A reply asked If I was fitted -yes -I started out with Graphite shafts and had this problem and went to a certified fitter who thought that the new X 22 cavity back s with 6.0 rifles would give me that consistency once I got used to them .he felt that the reg flex shafts and the "hybrid" style irons was the problem .I do see now a straighter ball flight -higher ball flight and a bit more distance -But NO improvement in the distance control . Someone suggested that I should swing much ,much slower and take all my distances way down and that I would be better off ....it still varied all over ---just at less yardage .....so I am really unable to play well and hence the total frustration .thanks in advance!!

expecting a ton of distance consistency at this stage of your game may just be asking too much of yourself, so a big dose of patience and perserverance may be the first thing you should think about.

Technically, you might want to look at the length of your swing - backswing to follow-through, to make sure it's consistent. Different length swings could yield different distances.

I would suggest that you might get a book on the mental game, even though you are relatively new. Tension could be one cause of your timing being off because you are feeling less than optimistic about the outcome. If you learn how to accept a bad shot/hole/round without getting upset, the game will be much more enjoyable and you can work with a pro to systematically work out problems with your swing. I like Zen Golf, but books by Bob Rotella are good as well. Just my $.02.

    • Yea, I think the first thing is to define block, variable, and random practice with regards to golf.  The easiest one might be in practicing distance control for putting. Block practice would be just hitting 50 putts from 5 feet, then 50 putts from 10 ft then 50 putts from 15 ft. While random practice would having a different distance putt for every putt.  In terms of learning a new motor pattern, like let's say you want to make sure the clubhead goes outside the hands in the backswing. I am not sure how to structure random practice. Maybe block practice is just making the same 100 movements over and over again. I don't get how a random practice is structured for something like learning a new motor pattern for the golf swing.  Like, if a NFL QB needs to work on their throw. They want to get the ball higher above the shoulder. How would random practice be structured? Would they just need someone there to say, yes or no for feedback? That way the QB can go through an assortment of passing drills and throws trying to get the wright throwing motion?  For me, how do you structure the feedback and be time effective. Let's say you want to work on the club path in the backswing. You go out to the course to get some random practice. Do you need to set up the camera at each spot, check after each shot to make it random?  I know that feedback is also a HUGE part of learning. I could say, I went to the golf course and worked on my swing. If I made 40 golf swings on the course, what if none of them were good reps because I couldn't get any feedback? What if I regressed?
    • I found it odd that both Drs. (Raymond Prior and Greg Rose) in their separate videos gave the same exact math problem (23 x 12), and both made the point of comparing block practice to solving the same exact math problem (23 x 12) over and over again. But I've made the point that when you are learning your multiplication tables… you do a bunch of similar multiplications over and over again. You do 7 x 8, then 9 x 4, then 3 x 5, then 2 x 6, and so on. So, I think when golf instructors talk about block practice, they're really not understanding what it actually is, and they're assuming that someone trying to kinda do the same thing is block practice, but when Dr. Raymond Prior said on my podcast that what I was describing was variable practice… then… well, that changes things. It changes the results of everything you've heard about how "block" practice is bad (or ineffective).
    • Day 121 12-11 Practice session this morning. Slowing the swing down. 3/4 swings, Getting to lead side better, trying to feel more in sync with swing. Hit foam balls. Good session overall.
