OK so I hope it's not terribly bad taste that I'm posting this, but my wife and I died laughing when Tiger "broke wind" in the fairway on Sunday (on the 18th I think) so I just had to share.

Between the announcers saying things like "little more release" and "Tiger waits..." to set it up and the comically loud nature of it I would have thought it an unfortunate coincidence with an off camera noise if not for him and Steve W falling out laughing and him actually moving from the spot.

Anyway - I posted it on youtube...

..it's a good job he didn't follow through on it, lol...that really would have been embarrassing .

But seriously, there was no pressure on Tiger in that tournament as he found the time to laugh about on the 18th fairway. This week will be a totally different matter in my view- Im lookin for Philly Mick to beat up on TW...that would be a good watch.

I don't think it was Tiger. The sound came from a mic which is on the side of the course, where the sideline reporter is.

I don't think it was tiger either. No way a mic could pick a fart that clearly, from tat far away. Sounds like a TV reporter to me.

ha ha ha that is damn funny... if you try to see it on you tube the PGA Tour has taken it down for copyright purposes... stupid... what's wrong with a little fart humor?

I don't think it was Tiger. I'm guessing Feherty.

Agreed... if it was Tiger I think Stevie would have turned towards him... Tiger shakes his head as he and Stevie turn to the right... Feherty has a history of this with Tiger... I'm sure Tiger was just appreciating the moment of Feherty letting it go

I could agree if not for the fact that he lifts his leg EXACTLY when the thing goes off (and doesn't move it again). Given the fact that the mics on the tee are unidirectional (I think that's the right one here) to pick up just the impact I thought there was the chance of one of the camera guys having one pointed his way here.

Also if a mic couldn't have picked up Tiger's from that far away then how did Tiger & Steve's ears pick up one from the same distance just the other direction? He turns and walks away from the spot - I'm still saying it was a tiger roar... :)

He was within earshot of the gallery, so I'd imagine it would be quite easy to hear from where he was. If it was Tiger we wouldn't have heard it as loudly as we did. If a mic had been pointed at him to pick it up we would have heard his and Stevie's laughter afterwards as well, but we didn't.

99.9% sure it was Feherty, a known flatulence connoisseur. The mic didn't pick up Tiger saying "ha!" and "are you serious?" anywhere near as loud as the fat.

And Feherty has a habit of accidentally leaving his mic open.

All good points - I'll concede especially based on what you point out with the vocals. I'd rather blame Feherty anyway...

This will be the Zapruder film of 2009.

"See how Kennedy lifts his hands up around his neck and Governor Connally's jacket puffs out as the first bullet passes through both of them...."

"See how Tiger lifts his leg at the moment the fart is heard but Steve instinctively turns his head to the right as the fart ends...."

Nah, this one is cleared up pretty quickly by paying attention and applying a little common sense ;).

haha this was pretty funny though I didn't notice while watching it live. I was busy trying to figure what the deal was with Letzig's tee shot when he had 255 left to the hole on a 435 yard hole :/

Definitely not Tiger, you can see him and Stevie looking over to the right side of the fairway after it happens.

haha it had to have been Tiger.. either way its not the most unclassy thing he did on a golf course before lol

I think it was someone in the crowd along the fairway. They were standing near the rough by the crowd and when it happened they both kind of looked toward the crowd and started to laugh. I don't think the commentators mentioned anything about it, though.

    • I'm not sure who said it first but I've seen it a lot. There's this "think box" vs "play box" theory. I've also seen it with a planning vs doing line on the ground. The idea is basically you stand away from the ball (a couple feet) and do your "think box". This is where you do your planning, your swing cues, your practice swings (if you believe in practice swings.) All of that is done in the "Think Box". Then you step into your "play box" address the ball and hit it. Sometimes it's done with a imaginary line on the ground. You do all of the think box stuff behind the line. Then once you cross the line you step up and hit it.  Here's Annika Sorenstam demonstrating the "Think box" and "Play box": So, Annika's time over the ball is really short. Because she did all of that other stuff not over the ball, but in her "Think box".  There are lots of variations on this theme. But I think you get the idea.
    • I speak for myself. If I inventory my swing thoughts, swing tempo, optimum muscle tension and rehearse a swing before I take my address, then I pull the trigger reasonably quickly with usually acceptable results. Like a proper program download before deploying it. If I don't bother to by forgetting or just not caring, I am inclined to look for my cues while hovering over the ball after taking the address, while tension builds up and then I fire with a half ass program that is still buffering. I guess that's no better than rolling a dice. In other words, a good pre-shot routine does wonders. I am not advising folks to take 13 practice swings while the flowers wilt waiting for something to happen, but one or maybe two are reasonable and good for you. I am certain hitting half ass shitty shots and making double bogey takes longer than making a par.  My desire this year is to just that as I have not developed a habit taking a practice swing and as a result have tendency to freeze over the ball after address, that is counter productive for both time and result. I think that is what @saevel25 is talking about in the OP.

    • I think there's a difference between taking time over the ball and taking time to play a shot, at least IMO. One thing I've noticed in a few guys I play with who take a long time over the ball to pull the trigger, is that their backswing is really fast and I think it makes it harder to have a smooth rhythmic down swing. It's almost like they take so long to swing that when they do they speed to catch up. Doesn't lead to good golf IMO.
