ok... perhaps he doesn't 'suck' at putting, he's just really bad at it. honestly, unless you're putting consistently at all times, i don't think one can rightly be called a good putter. he missed four within 5 feet. not to mention he's in the bottom ten in putts per round.

According to ESPN stats, he's 168 out of 200. Certainly not great, but not in the bottom 10 either. That being said, his putting avg. per hole is 1.81 per round. No. 1 is AK with 1.741 per hole. That's not much difference. I still contend he had a worse day than his average.

VJ has always struggled with the putter. If he was a great putter there's no telling how many wins he'd have.

I think the pressure to win another major will really tell on Tiger tomorrow and I predict a mild choke.

...I can't wait to see how he behaves when he's really in contention tomorrow....winning another major is a big deal for Tiger as he is not bothered about run of the mill tour events....it's nice to win them but majors is what he plays and practices for now.

If he gets off to a good start then he will be fine but if he starts shakily and Paddy birdeis etc then it could be very compelling viewing.

Tiger has never lost after leading through 54 holes or more. I will bet my house on it that Tiger will win and tie Jack.

Tiger is playing like crap today. No other way of describing it.

LOL, he was a missed 4 footer away from basically playing a perfect round for his position on the leaderboard - instead he shot only one under instead of two under. Sure, a lot of the guys who moved up shot 3 or 4 under, but they had to try and go that low because Tiger started 4 clear of the field.

Tomorrow those same guys will be trying not to screw up instead of firing at flags while Tiger is going to go out ant shoot 2 or 3 under and make someone catch him.

How about Corey Pavin?? Prolly the shortest hitter in the field T13 at -1

I hit the ball farther than Corey Pavin, yet he's the one under par after three days playing a 7,600-yard course. How does he do it? (He gets his 260-yard drives in the fairway, while my 260-yard drives have minds of their own. It's a simple concept, really.)

It's a little more than just finding the fairway...

Maybe it's the fact he's better in every facet of the game than you?...

As close as the tournament seems to be, here's another way of looking at it: if Tiger shoots 70 on Sunday, two players will have to shoot 67 to win and the next two will have to shoot 65.

Yeah. I love Tiger's chances on Sunday, obviously. I'd be SHOCKED if he lost or it went to a playoff, to be honest with all of you.

I think he'll cruise to victory.

Harrington's final round scores for his three major victories: 67, 69, 66. If anyone can do it, it's Paddy.

CG, I stumbled across a new incident involving Sergio and poor behavior:

http://www.startribune.com/sports/go...tml?page=2&c;=y
Ten years ago this month, Sergio Garcia ran up the fairway at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago, famously leapt in the air to spy his shot off tree roots and in a moment left a lasting memory of a 19-year-old sensation surely destined for major-championship greatness. On Friday, he was seen running across a fairway again. This time, it was after he struck his lay-up shot at Hazeltine National Golf Club's par-5 15th hole. This time, though, he crossed a cart path, straddled a neighbor's fence and took a bathroom break in somebody's backyard, next to a tree. Garcia followed an opening-day 71 with a 78 Friday and missed the cut.

It's more of a funny story than anything, but it shouldn't have happened at all. WTF was he thinking?

I don't know, but it's pretty hilarious. I'm surprised ESPN didn't make a big deal about it. Nice share.

Yes it is pretty hilarious. I bet that homeowner gave him a hard time about it (not in a serious way though, more in a joking manner). I bet his playing partners gave him all kinds of hell for it. LOL.

Yeah, LOL. It's pretty stupid but whatever, when you can't hit a golf ball that well, you do what you want.

    • I have won the net division of the 2024 William Anderson Match Play Championships at Neshanic Valley Golf Course.
    • I won the net division of the match play tournament. Yesterday was the semifinals and my opponent conceded the round to me on the 2nd hole because he knew he would be unavailable for the final today. I got lucky there and got a bye into the finals. We did end up playing our match as an exhibition and I would have lost. It was the worst round of the tournament for me and I think knowing that the match didn't matter might have been a factor. I'll write up a blog post about the whole experience at some point. Today I won, 3&1. My opponent and I halved the first three holes much to his credit. I was striping it and he just kept scrambling and hanging in there. We both blew up on the par 3 4th hole but I ended up taking that one by holing an 8-footer for double bogey. I went up 2 after he put two in the penalty area on #5 and promptly gave that hole back by putting my tee shot into the penalty area on #6 by a foot. It's important to note that most of the penalty areas on this course are deemed environmentally sensitive areas and we are not allowed to enter or play shots out of them. So even though I physically was able to play a shot from where I was on #6, I could not, by rule. I followed that by winning #7, making a 25' birdie putt and finished the front 9 3 up after he had some bunker trouble on #9. I went up 4 by winning #11 (we both sucked on that hole but he missed the putt to halve). On #12 we both hit the green with our tee shots. He hit his first putt past the hole and I lagged mine inside of 4' with an uphill putt for par. His putt for par was too long again, just inside of mine but definitely outside of gimme range. I gave him that one for bogey. I felt at the time, being 4 up, that I didn't want to win the hole because he ends up missing a 3-footer and fourputted or something. I wanted to win the hole by making my par putt. I did not. He probably would have made the putt anyway (he's not me after all, and he made everything in that range all day) but it seemed like the sporting thing to do at the time. He was genuinely surprised I gave it to him, butI felt good about it. Then it almost bit me in the ass as he started to mount a comeback. We halved #13 after he made a great up & down and he took #14 with a long par putt. He also won #15 with a 5' birdie putt. We halved #16 with a pair of bogeys after he put his tee shot in the water and I missed a 4-footer for the win. We got to #17 and I was still 2 up. He hit his tee shot just off the back of the green to an extended apron area short of the back bunker and I put mine on the green pin high but 30' away. He was actually closer so I played first and hit it within a foot for par. He didn't hole out for birdie which sealed the match and ended up making bogey on the hole. With the pressure off, we both played the par 5 #18 well. He played it as a three shot hole like a normal person and hit it to 8' and two-putted for par. I striped my drive and ended up with a downhill lie to an uphill approach like 180 yards out and gave myself the green light to go for it in two. Thin hooked it into thick rough to the left of the green with a bunker in between and hit a high flop to 4', probably my best shot of the day. Made the birdie putt.
