Just reading golf.com and came across this article about how Yang will be paired with Tiger tomorrow and they said...

"Yang certainly didn't take the easy road to the sport's biggest stage. He didn't even start swinging a golf club until a friend brought him to the driving range at age 19. Even when the bug hit him, he had to fulfill a military commitment, spending 18 months as a guard at the South Korean Naval port.

He turned professional in 1996 at age 24, but didn't qualify for the PGA Tour until 2007."

Just goes to show you that anything is possible, I guess if you work hard enough you can make it pro, even if you start later in life...

No it doesn't. It shows that Y.E. Yang did something that is amazing and virtually unheard of.

Plenty of people work incredibly hard and don't make it. As for those who start later in life, Yang is the only one I've heard of.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Larry Nelson picked it up at age 21 and won 3 majors. Like Yang, he had military service. Maybe that's the key - you might be able to make it to the TOUR and contend in majors, even if you didn't pick up golf until a later age, but only if you serve in the military.

That having been said, you're right: it is virtually unheard of. Each of these guys essentially pulled their own little Paper Tiger type act.

Sorry, i should have said... you MAY be able to make it pro, even if you started later in life...

That being said, there is no reason someone can't pick up the game in their 20's and still make a career out of it as long as they have the talent.

Going to be pretty interesting how he plays next to Tiger today. He beat Tiger in some tournament last year.

Couple of years ago. IIRC, someone at that tournament - possibly Yang - had a few words with Tiger about hitting into people (which he did by accident, of course).

Lots of players crumble next to Tiger, it'll be interesting to see if Yang holds together. He played some great golf yesterday, hope he can follow it up.

Lee Westwood started at 13 and took a year to get to scratch apparently.

yeah, he held together solid and made some huge plays. Well deserved. I would have loved to see a better charge by tiger but hey, this guy is real good too and he earned it.

I remember seeing the logo in tennis boutiques but that was about 20 years ago.

      Older vs Current Putter Weight Differences

      My dad had an original Ping Anser that I got refinished. Ping only charged $20 so I figured why not. It’s hard to believe the weight difference between my current gamer (counterbalanced Edel with 25g weight) and the Anser. I’m going to throw a new grip on the Anser and try it out.  I know this is a huge difference and just from a few practice swings the lighter putter doesn’t feel near as stable. I highly doubt it will outperform the Edel but wanted to know what’s everyone’s experience with a lighter vs heavier putter?

      Right - better can mean different things depending on the situation. It might mean scoring better or it might mean closer to a functional swing (which in the moment might be scoring worse).

      Phone launch monitors are only getting better.  The cameras are improving with each new generation of phone and software is getting more accurate.  It is only a question of time before phone apps are good enough for all the basic information a golfer needs (club head speed, ball speed, carry distance, total distance).  It makes me wonder about the value of launch monitors in the long run, barring high level amateurs and professionals who want very accurate data and more parameters
