Im always checking up on the forum, but after seeing your question I had to join. Buy the hybrid! I was in the same situation as you. I keep on finding myself having to short play my shot because I too only had a 4 Iron. I decided to buy a Nike Sumo2 3 Hybrid, I was sold immediately after hitting this club. Swing it just like an iron, maybe a little more up on your stance and the ball takes off. Great club and one of my most satisfying purchases.

Here's an update. I bought a nike sumo(squared)4h. They were on sale too. I went straight to the range to try it out.

At first I couldn't hit the club. I was swinging it more the way I would swing my 5 wood and it was going nowhere at all. So, I hit it down on it like I was swinging a 5 iron and BAM! It took off. Hit a few more before I moved on to my wedges and all were solid. At the end of the session I finished the bucket with it and hit pretty well. It almost suprised me how well I hit. Taking it to the course will be the real test. But, I'm happy so far.

By the way, this was off of a mat. It's a nice mat that simulates a fairway though, not a super hard one. Still a mat though. I would have tried off the grass but, it just rained and I didn't want to mess up the grass. I'd imagine it would hit even better off the grass.

The main reason hybrids are easier to hit is that the thickness of the hybrids allows designers to move the center of gravity on the clubs back away from the face, which allows golfers with slower swing speeds to get the ball up in the air.

I disagree. A hybrid is easier to swing than an iron, regardless of design.

It is not easier to swing.

It is easier to get a solid RESULT because hybrids are forgiving and versatile clubs. A person with an inconsistent swing could hit 100 3 irons and maybe get 5 to go perfectly. The same person would probably get 20 to 30 acceptable results with a hybrid.

I was absolutely blown away by the Titliest 909h.

I gave up my 5 wood because most of my shots in that distance are ones where I miss the fairways on medium to long par 4s. I knew I needed a hybrid.

I always thought of titliest 909 stuff as the "better players' clubs, but from the first swing the 909h has stuck to me. It is easy to hit off the fairway, deep stuff, even sand when push comes to shove.

My best bet for you is go to your local shop and hit every hybrid in the shop, don't leave out any possibilities.

I used my buddies cheapo walter hagan 3ihybrid and went out the next day and bought one. I love it, and by far my favorite club. Only problem is that I seem to hit it too far. I find myself hitting it off the tee alot. I can get it out about 240 most of the time. Anyone know if there would be a big difference in the hybrid 3 to a 4

My set has a 4 and 3 hybrid instead of 4 and 3 iron. I like hybrids because I can get a lot of distance out of them. I can hit my 3 hybrid about 230 off the ground. However, the problem is that it's hard to hit off the ground. It took me a long time to get decent at doing this, and this is usually the situation when you hit a hybrid. It might be a par 5 or a long par 4 and you're stuck 210-230 yards from the hole with a club that's difficult to hit off the ground. Overall, I'd rather have 3 and 4 irons instead of hybrids.
