I played a round last Saturday, only my 4th round of playing my new AP2s, and omg I hit the most perfect 9 iron, and heard the ball "wizzz" like the pros!

It started low and climbed real high (tour trajectory), about 142yrds, landed about 10ft from the pin, no birdie though.

Now I'm realizing how nice these irons are! Now if I can straighten out the driver! I might play both Sat. and Sunday which is rare for me.

btw, the ball I play is NXT Tour.

The fact that you hit a 9 iron almost 145yds is impressive

Look at my location, I'm a "mile-high" here in Denver. So that equates to about 135yds at sea level.

I hear the hiss when I hit my irons crisp, it's a great feeling.

I would assume a single digit handicap hears that sound quite often...

It is a good sound though

I'm not sure what my favorite sound is though, the whizz or the crack the club and ball make...

Due to not even playing my first round of the year until July, swing changes, and entire new set of clubs, I haven't heard that much.

Ain't golf great, you can hack it up all day, hit one perfect shot, and it keeps us coming back for more!

what does the wizz mean? A bunch of backspin because of the air running over the dimples?

precisely, only when you hit it flush, compressing the ball, major spin.

I know exactly what your talking about.

I used to get this from time to time, now, I suck...

But, yeah, when you hear the sound coming off someone such as Sergio on the range, OMG, what a difference compared "The Best Player You Know"'s sound.

The ball flight you describe sounds like you hit it a groove (or 2) too low. I don't think I have ever seen a flushly hit 9 iron that "started low and climbed real high" unless it was struck thin. Also, how can you hear your own ball "wizzz" when it is moving away from you?

But hey, if you say you struck it well and heard the "wizzz" good on you!

If he hit it that well and had that much clubhead and ball speed, the shaft was probably too weak for that praticular shot, causing the ballooning.

I hear it all the time...maybe you're just not listening or you've got a loud course? It's easy to hear.

Dang, I don't think i've ever heard my balls whizz out, and I've spent a lot of time practicing my irons. Maybe my swing speed isn't nearly high enough to hear the whizz, but I'm not sure, I was making great contact today and sending my 8-iron about 150 and 7-iron about 160 yards out (definitely much longer than my average, just had a good range session i guess) and I don't think I heard any whizz. Or maybe I just need to listener closer, i'm usually much more focused on feel.

He's talking about the sound of an iron shot when you strike it perfectly, dead-center...you can't hear that sound?...

Nope, my course is in the country. It may be that that I'm not listening...although I've played this game for 30+years...

I have heard others when standing in front of them, never my own. The only sound I hear is the "click" on impact, never heard the ball "wizzz" going away from me
