this happened to me last week and early this week. I started flipping my long irons and driver. Thanks god my chipping came around and the putter showed up on these days. So today i went to the range and really took my time hitting shots and had a very productive range session. Very excited to play this weekend.

My advice would be go to the range and take a minute or two per ball and really think about your movements and swing.

I've lost my swing a few times but none more memorable than in April. I was literally scared to hit a ball. During a round with a couple friends, I had been going pretty good through 5 holes (+4, well it's good for me anyway). The 6th is a 533 yard par 5 but straight with next to nothing in the way from tee to green. Hit a decent drive to the first cut on the right. Pulled my 3 hybrid after some debating - I hadn't been hitting it real well lately - and topped the crap out of the ball. Next, use 5 iron to leave myself a wedge up and shanked the hell out of it, almost onto the 1st hole green. Now I'm getting sweaty and nervous. Grab my PW just to get it out into play and shank that one. At this point I'm done mentally. I've lost it. I go +17 on the next 7 holes. At some point I found a swing that would get me to the finish and on the last 6 holes was +5. So, for 11 holes I'm +9, for 7 holes I'm +17. Amazing.

A few weeks later I played with my aunt and before the round went to hit some warm up balls. Shanked every one off the practice tee. Ended up playing the red tees just so we wouldn't jam up the course.

I'm sure something like that will happen again but since then I've re-done my swing and it's much more compact. I'm confident I could figure out whatever is going wrong and mentally keep myself going.

Has this ever happened to anyone?

That's golf! I just had the opposite happen, didn't play a very good round, went to the range and couldn't hit a ball for the life of me. I went home told my wife my game was gone and she didn't have to worry about buying me new clubs (we have a deal, I get below 200 lbs, I get new irons). Went out 3 days later and played a round with my brother, even par 36 on the front, 3 over after 15, finished with a 79. Really makes you appreciate the mental toughness of the pro's.

IMO, yes, it happens. It's strange, but it can happen once in a while in a particularly noticeably unpleasant way as you're finding out.

I made a similar thread a while ago, when facing a similar swing crisis that seemed to come out of the blue.
Be reassured your swing comes back.

Yeah, just last sunday. I felt like I absolutely couldn't hit a ball correctly ever. Oddly enough a few days ago I decided just to to a more relaxed practice day in just shorts and flip flops/barefoot rather than golf shoes/pants and whatnot. Swinging barefoot made me realize my tempo was WAY the f*ck to fast. I needed to slow down and make a more smooth swing rather than trying to kill it cuz I'm pissed they weren't going as far as normal lol.

Happened to me multiple times this year, lol. 2 weeks ago I couldn't get the ball off the tee. Pop flies, tops and low little screamers with my 3 and 5 woods, driver... ugh, ugly. Last 2 days I went out, mashed my 3 wood dead straight almost every time, hit 11 of 14 fairways the one round.

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
