Since i started getting really into golf (early this year)i have found that i am less interested in doing things i used to love. I am on the verge of giving up all other sports to focus on golf and i am checking golf s.a for new events every day:) Does anyone else find that they are in the same position? any solutions

Embrace the golf :)

I'm not sure to be honest...being in Canada we only get to play golf about half the year, so I know I'm going to have time for other activities the other half. That being said, I've been thinking about trying to play baseball again (just recreationally) and I'm having a really hard time deciding as I'd obviously have to give up golfing days to do it. In the end I'll do what I want and be as happy as I can. Sure I'd love to do everything, but for now golf is my primary summer sport and I love it.

In my Datrek Rage bag:
Driver: Sumo 5000 w/ Aldila VS Proto Stiff
4-Wood: SasQuatch 2 w/ Diamana Stiff
Irons: AP2 4-PW w/ PX 6.0
Wedges: Zodia US Spec 52*, Yururi Gekku 57*, 588 DSG RTG+Putter: Scotty Cameron Studio Style 3.5 or Odyssey White Hot Tour #1Ball: ProV1 or whatever I find!

Golf is an addiction, when you start playing well you just want to get better, I think when you get to the point that you stop improving you might lose a little interest.

I use to scuba dive and shoot guns every weekend, this summer I have not picked up a gun once or went diving for crab or spearfish for lingcod, instead I have golfed a minimum of three times a week and so far I have golfed six days straight playing 36 holes on friday of last week.

I tee off at 6.00 am sharp golf 18 holes by myself and make it to work by 8 am. There is no hope for me! :)

It's already taken over my life. I practice almost everyday. Only three days off in the past 8 weeks.

I check my schedule and arrange things around my golf rounds.
I will put wedges and a putter in my trunk, so I can practice before or after I pick or drop off my son from school.
I check the weather to see when it will be clear to play golf
I am exercising and working out to remain flexible and hit the ball further
I am thinking about golf all the time.

To borrow (and edit) a quote from Bill Shankely, a former football manager in England:

Some people think golf is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that.

Some familiar stories here, I too used to do other things apart from golf. Gave up cricket for golf, gave up rugby (although that was partly for other reasons), hardly play guitar anymore, I've never cared as much about how good the weather is as I do now, and God knows my university work would be much less stressful if I didn't play golf as much and leave it all until the last minute. Never mind though, pitched one in for a birdie today!

My addiction has gotten so bad that if I even mention golf, my girlfriend will probably beat me with my driver.

That is perfect.

Right now I golf 4-5 times a week before winter gets here, so yeah, its a pretty serious obsession. I even consider going out in the rain as long as there is no lightening (sometimes the courses won't cooperate).

Yes, there are many who are really addicted to golf. I'm 56 years old with 20+ years of education. I have no idea why, but it does. HOwever, a lot depends on the person. People get addicted to all kinds of activities, sex, gambling, even motorcycle riding. There is an event going on right now called the Iron Butt Rally. The winners of this event will end up riding 11,000 miles during the approxamately 2 week event. They average 1000 miles a day during the actual competition.

However, it seems golf does have a lot of people obsessed with it. Some people buy a new set of clubs every year, or practice every day, or read all kinds of instruction books. Why?? I don't know.

Happens to everyone. People that don't golf just don't understand how the game sucks you in and keeps you there. Even when you're playing your worst, all you can think about is playing.

Not really any solutions... just embrace it. Practice and improve your game.

that's hilarious.............but true.....lol

This topic really hit home, I could not sleep for the last couple of days waiting for my new clubs to show up...

My oldest son (10) has the bug as well, I hope he can use it through High School and College.

It did for a long time. I sacrificed my relationship with my wife for it. It hurt her feelings and would say things like "It really hurts my feelings that you like playing golf more than spending time with you"... Well of course. I am a guy. I don't like to talk about my feelings, I like activities.

But this year I haven't been able to play as much. My son is 3 right now and I have actually gotten a little worse this year. My interest is waining a bit because of this. I actually said to her I might like mountain biking more than golf. I have some days went and rode my bike and then played 9. It is so much cheaper and an incredable workout. I really like fast downhill trails and technical climbs.

But nothing beats making a birdie to win a couple of bucks.

    • That answers my question.  That feels more natural to me. I'll work on that. Thanks
    • Complex question. Good players begin pushing forward around P2. Visibly around P3. They're well on their way forward at P4.
    • Still plugging away with the teacher.  I do have a question after working on some drills last night. This is something I should know already but for some reason, I have gotten myself confused. It deals with weight transfer on the downswing. At what point, should that take place?  Should it be early (prior to reaching A4) ?  I ask because in one of my drills  I get to A4, I feel the weight transfer AS my arms drop, and then go.  Now this may be totally normal, but I "feel" like this gets me in a weird timing position and causes me to try and do too much at once.
    • Tentatively in for at least one of those days. My job situation is a bit up in the air at the moment so need to get that sorted out first then I'll know more for sure or not.
