I'm curious to see what sand wedge and lob wedge lofts and bounce angles you guys have in your bag.

I currently have a 56* SW with a 15* bounce angle and I'm in the market for a lob wedge. But now that I think about it, I'm thinking of getting a new SW as well with a slightly lower bounce angle.

I just want to see what you guys keep in your bag to judge what I should be looking at. I'm pretty sure I'll stick with 56* and 60* wedges because it keeps a nice degree spacing with my PW and GW. But I'm really interested to see what bounce angles you use and why.

Which club would be used out of greenside bunkers????

Depending on the distance to the hole, either SW or LW.

I've been practicing at my local course hitting out of the sand and the pin is between 8-16 feet (depending on where you stand in the sand). With my 56.15 wedge, I'm hitting most of my shots past the hole. I'm finding it very difficult to get any loft on the ball and it rolls too far once it lands. My SW is great for 15-20 foot greenside bunker shots. But those really close ones I'm having a tough time with using my SW.

56/12 and 60/08. For me, it's the best balance across all types of conditions.

SW - 56° and 11° bounce
LW - 58° and 8° bounce

and just for info.... GW is 52° and 8° bounce. All are Titleist Vokey. I've successfully used all 3 from bunkers, but the 56° is my preferred sand club.

If you have a sand wedge with lots of bounce , this works well out of softer, fluffy sand. It can also be used for a "semi-lob" out of fluffy rough.

For firm sand, you might use an AW with lower bounce so you don't "skip and skull" the shot. Or, if you have good touch, you can pick the ball off of firm sand with a SW rather than blasting it.

For you short bunker shots, take a shorter backswing, but make sure you stay with the shot, follow through smoothly and finish high .

If you carry a lob wedge, practice sand shots with it. This comes in handy if you ever get into deep pot bunkers that require you to go 8 feet up to reach the green.

I can't decide if I like lob wedges or not. I haven't carried one since I got new irons.

Focus, connect and follow through!

I use both ones from the sand and lob with the Titleist.

i just play standard on both 56.11 and 60.7.

I live in california so weather and maintance is quite nice, and std bounce is well balanced, because the pan is never too spongy or too hard.

56* sw 12* bounce
60* lw 6* bounce

I use the lw for bunkers actually, I swing through pretty fast. The extra bounce I found is actually better for flyer lies and soft ground stuff as well as chipping.

After trying several different loft/lie combinations, I have settled upon 56-12, and 60-12, as I use both out of the sand, and for chipping, depending on the length of the shot. The higher bounce gives me more confidence on full shots from the fairway, that I am not going to dig a trench under the ball.

Most of the courses I play here in the midwest have hard sand and turf, I prefer a lower bounce for those conditions.

My 52 has 8 degrees, but i rotate 58's that have 8 and 12 degrees of bounce. I usally use the 8 for firm conditions. I have to open up the 8 degree more in bunkers usually to prevent it from digging.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
