This has been the most maddening year to watch Golf. First there was the Greatest Story to unfold in all of sports in Decades. The British open that would have been the most amazing spectical since... well ever. Unfortunately some Stinker had to go and win his first Major and only one he will ever get. Then Y E (you cant be) Serious robs us of History again at the PGA. Now we have the possiblity of a four way sudden death playoff with Paddy Harrington, Steve Stricker, Ernie Els and some guy named Tiger at the first leg of the Fed ex cup playoffs. They would of talked about that playoff for years. But NOOOOOOO a guy who got into the playoffs at 124 and missed the cut last week holes out a 22' putt on the 72nd hole to ruin the show for everybody. I have never seen a year of such amazing scripts in the making ruined by a bunch of nobody's. It has been painful. Let's hope next year the Meat learn there place and stay out of the way of history.

My goodness, I hope you're kidding. True, the story of the year has been who hasn't won - Kenny Perry, Phil Mickelson and David Duval, Tom Watson, Tiger Woods, and now the group of four, but I'm not upset at the eventual victors in any case.

Stewart Cink even said that he had been rooting for Tom Watson. And I doubt this will be his only major: he's won a WGC, and finished solo second behind Tiger twice, and I think he can win another of each.

maybe it's just me but...history also had it's runs of no namers winning tournaments back when the golden bear, snead, etc were playing. why is it any different now? just because we've been so used to tiger making his putts in the clutch i think it's been only a given he'd win. It's about time we saw that he's human. ever occur to some people this could actually be GOOD for tiger to realize that he can't drain every 12 footer to tie or win on EVERY sunday?...Comon, you can't honestly tell me that the competitive nature of the game, as random as it can be at times in terms of winners, that it wasn't good to see another new face up there. btw for what it's worth tiger, phil, ernie, paddy, stricker and the ones you normally see...are in the top 20 in points. get over it, tiger lost and so did the other big names, as far as i'm concerned, good for slocum. For cryin out loud the guy played quality golf and deserved to win, no matter what rank or name was on his caddie's back. *hops off the soapbox*

Tiger is undoubtedly the best golfer today and probably ever. But with his recent cussing, hitting the ground with his club, and getting mad at himself for missing a 35' putt, it is time he gets beat on Sunday. I agree with some posts above, he needs to realize he's human. Congrats YE

Sure it would have been nice to see Watson win the British, but he blew it on 18 on the final round, concrats Stewart!

I would have preferred to see Paul Goydos or Earny win the Barclays, but it was a great final round: Congrats Slocum!

All in all, the recent upsets and surprise 1st place finishes are all unexpected, but great for the game. It makes the game human again, and it also shows us who is gonna be around after Tiger and the rest of todays greats are gone

It has been painful.

Painful? Maybe exciting, unexpected, edge-of-your-seat thrilling, refreshing, and a host of other adjectives, but neither painful, nor boring! I only hope next year is as much fun!

You forgot about the masters and the us open. You have Kenny Perry almost winning his first major, and David Duval making a comeback, or Phil winning his last tournament before he takes time off to be with his wife.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

While the usual suspects couldn't seal the deal this year, it's unfair to have this attitude.

You can't win a major without earning it (with the possible exception of Ben Curtis who backed into his British Open!). Perry folded in the Masters, Tiger couldn't hole a putt in the PGA, Phil messed up on short putts at the US Open and Watson ran out of gas in the British Open play-off. People seem particularly tough on Yang. He played terrific stuff in the last round at the PGA, particularly on 18, under severe pressure and head to head against Tiger. It would have been "more historic" if he had choked like many before him and handed Woods another title, but it's pretty cool (maybe historic even!) that a poor, self taught late bloomer faced down the anointed one! Similarly, Slocum held his nerve last week admirably and did what Stricker & Woods couldn't do from much closer - hole a putt on 18.

I would argue that it would be worse if the same few guys (or just Tiger) won every big tournament. If the first Asian born major winner isn't historic for you, there's a few billion on that continent who would disagree.

I wanted Kenny Perry, Tom Watson, and Tiger Woods to win this year, but alas, it was not to be.

But your closet racism astounds me. The first asian born player to win a major was long overdue and enormous for the game of golf. Shame on you for saying that Y.E. Yang "killed" history.

i like watching dark horses come out of nowhere and win.

i like watching tiger get beat in the final round even more.

why?? maybe its just the fact that someone who isnt a big shot who actually gets a piece of the pie motivates me to become a better golfer.... or something like that...

i was proud of y.e. yang when he won the pga.. i loved watching slocum win last week, (mainly cause i'm a Ping guy at heart)... the masters was an edge of the seat thriller and so were the vast majority of the tournaments...

i hope next year the underdog prevails once again.. and phil wins a few more

i want to see tiger win a few, but not every dang one of them.... that gets old quick, fast, and in a hurry....
