I was watching an episode of "Playing Lessons" with Pat Perez and Kelly Slater. I have seen Slater play before at Pro-Am's. He has a single digit handicap and plays fairly well.

My question is: Who is your favorite Celebrity/Amateur Golfer and why? What is their handicap? What do they bring to the game of golf?

Alice Cooper. He took up golf as an outlet after quitting drinking. He's somewhere in the low single digits, when last I checked. He is so the anti-stereotypical looking golfer, but he was always one of my favorite musicians as well. While being a pioneer in the world of shock rock, many of his shows and songs were heavily influenced by Vaudeville and popular music. He is such an enigma both on and of the course, I have to pull for him in any pro-am.

I like Cheech Marin (-18) and Robert Redford (-12).

Cheech is hilarious and very intelligent (always does well on celebrity Jeapordy). Best caddy ever in a golf movie (Tin Cup).....ok maybe second to Murray when he caddied for the preacher in Caddyshack.

Redford has done much to promote film making. Happy to live in the mountains of Utah, far away from the Hollywood and its scene.

Jack Wagner. Solid game, not aware he's anything but a solid citizen, and I bet he gets laid a lot. A lot!

Charles Barkley - I don't know what his handicap is.

My rationale - he makes my swing look better

Wayne Gretzky. Not sure of his cap, but it is solid.

As for him, he is a stand up guy, and hosts his own Nationwide event in Ontario.

I was a kid when he was at his prime with the Oilers, and being a Canadian kid at that time always thought, and still think, a lot of him.

My uncle (only 10 years older than me) used be the head coach of the San Jose Stealth in the National Lacrosse League, and he got to share an office with Gretzky when the Coyotes were in San Jose to play the Sharks. My uncle brought back a ton of pictures, but he said what struck him the most about Gretzky was how down to earth he is. If you didn't know sports, he said you would have never known he was the greatest hockey player of all time. Gretzky went out on the floor and shot around with the Lacrosse team and my uncle said it was like he was just another one of the guys.

Alice Cooper is definitely a great celeb to watch on the course. Cheech is one of my favorite as well but when I saw him at the celebrity event in tahoe a few years ago, he wasn't having a good day, just smokin and bumbling to himself. However at the same event, Ray Romano seemed to be great with the crowds and everybody loved raymond and by the end of the day he had one of the biggest followings.

Catherine Zeta-Jones. Her handicap is Michael Douglas. But, wow, her swing is soooo fluid...

I was going to say MJ but if Ms. Catherine is a golfer I have changed my mind.

Probably either Ben Roethlisberger, who I think plays at a 3 handicap, or Jordan. It was pretty cool seeing Ben and MJ, along with Timberlake at the US Open Challenge.

    • So no joke, last evening post work nine must have been the craziest side I've ever played: Bogey, double, double, par, birdie, birdie, birdie, double, birdie. Two gimme birdies, one 15 footer and one bonus bomb from prolly 35 feet on no. 9. Full disclosure, it's a super easy course when greens are running at an 8 with easy welcoming pins. Still, a couple of firsts there. Driver freed me up starting the fourth hole. Anyway, driver notes: 1) anti left left hand grip. 2) no structural bind on hands/grip. 3) left shoulder HAS to get up to chin with humerus completely detached from chest and shoulder socket (feel) Big game tomorrow, aiming to break 80.
