So I'm on number twelve by myself monday morning at 7:45 and my phone rings, I'm self employed and I need to go to a project a little early, so I take off go to the club house and let the guy know I need to leave early and will finish the 6 holes that I have left on Tuesday after I play the front nine, He says no way you have to play it today or you loose it. WTF?

I have played this coarse at least 40 times this summer and have been playing almost everyday latley, I tee off at 6:15 am pay at the turn and I'm done before most people are out of bed. but I did get a late start today and cold have been done by 8:30 .

Is this normal ? One would think he would cut me some slack considering what a good customer I have been.

I would say that once you have started on the second 9, no.

With the economy the way it is here, and with the heat the way it is here, and as slow as it has been at most of the courses, they will 90% of the time cut people slack and let them finish the other holes later, but, typically not on a different day.

Sounds like an ass. Next time ask the nice guy.

I'd never expect to be able to just decide to finish a round later, let alone on a different day. If the course let me, I'd feel like they were doing a huge favor, but I wouldn't even think to ask. I don't think there's any grounds to be upset.

What you're asking for here is basically a golf doggy-bag. You can't do that! Just imagine if 20 people did that everyday at a course! It would be nuts. Are you going to play 24 next time, or 18 and just pay for 12? I don't get why you feel this is appropriate. I've never heard of this done, let alone asked for. The fact that you want to play the holes on another day is just weird, and based on the fact that you didn't have to stop due to weather, I'd say ''Tough Titty''. You leave on your account, too bad, great customer or not. I don't know how it is there, but the course I work at and play at, if you're not happy, there's 30 people waiting for your tee-time. Courses don't owe you anything, it's not a given.

You just assume you can go to the 13th tee, a day later, possibly cut in front of other players, and resume your round?? That would not fly where I live, and I think the course owes you nothing.

A good analogy may be a movie theater. I'm not sure they should let you finish watching the movie the next day because you decided you had something better to do during the first viewing.

First off I would never cut in front of anyone to finish the round this coarse is empty early in the morning during the week.
I'm not playing bay hill it's a small par 4 muni coarse, I really don't see what the big deal would have been , I play the front nine jump to 13 finish the 6 holes and all is good, I just found it a little annoying that he would not let me do this.

I guess I could have just done it and not asked.

very interesting replys!

Yeah, and they could ask you to leave and don't come back for effectively stealing a round. The real WTF would be from the person on 13 when you drive up and want to tee off... How long have you been playing golf? In my (admittedly brief 1 1/2 year) experience - you start on the front or the back or it's a shotgun start in a tourney who has the whole course - it's not really and a la carte deal... Since you say you could have finished by 8:30 you would have only put your project back 45 minutes - yet you chose not to do this because that was 45 minutes of $$ coming from your project. That was your choice - you gave up the course time you paid for and got paid for it. Don't see why these replies are "very interesting" - seem more like common sense, no brainer, expected results replies...

Ive had to leave before because i didnt have time to finish before work(i work in the evening). I just called it a loss because it was my fault. You go to the course to play golf with the assumption you have time to do so. If something comes up and you have to leave, you cant go back. If its important enough that you have to leave like work or family, then golf just simply has to take a backseat and you start over again the next time. Maybe if you had stopped after 9 and wanted to play the back 9 they might let you do that but most wont even let you do that. You play what you pay while you're there, if you leave you have to start over and pay again, pretty much standard policy for every golf course.

No man you are crazy. I would never do that. When you pay and have possible engagements pending, you take that on yourself. I just want to know where you are from so I can find out where in the world this behavior might be acceptable.

Yes, this is normal. You finish that day or you forfeit the remainder. t my home course if you haven't teed off on 13 you MIGHT talk them into a 9 hole raincheck..... but no promises. Depends on the reason and how sympathetic they feel that day.

Wow tough crowd ! hope someone doesn't find out where I live and do a drive by shooting.

I went back to the coarse Today and asked him what his policy was on this type of situation, and that I didn't understand.
He said he was sorry and that he was having a bad day and didn't mean to be so blunt and that I was a great customer ,Thanked me for my bussiness and offered me a free round.

I declined but asked him if the coarse was empty early during the week could I finish my golf he gladley said yes, I bought another 150.00 dollar punch card we shook hands and all is good. win win situation for both of us.

Glad everything was resolved to your satisfaction.

Most any course I've had any dealings with have provisions for either 18 or 9 hole rain checks. I suppose it's their discrection as to how to define what consitutes a rain check for 18 or just one for 9.

Oddly enough...I haven't had to use one for actual developing weather in 10 years. This past year I did get a 9 hole (son was sick in school) and an 18 hole (trick knee gave out while on the range warming up....couldn't play for over 2 months....longest I've ever held on to a rain check).

    • So I am aware that "the committee is allowed to set its own standards of player conduct in a code of conduct adopted as a local rule" (rule 1.2b) I also understand that there are some aspects that are allowed to be entered, and some that are not allowed.  My question specifically is: In which form does this code of conduct need to be available? Is it enough for someone to say "that's part of our code of conduct", or is it a requirement, that the code of conduct is in written form? Also, is there a need that the local rule points to the code of conduct in any way?   For better understanding: I'm playing competition and the next course that we play has a "no smoking policy". I don't have a problem with it, as I don't smoke anyway, but one of my team-mates does, and someone told him "You'll get disqualified if you smoke on the course".   Now I have looked at their local rules and there is no reference to a "code of conduct". I'm not sure if they even have an official "code of conduct" that states that smoking is not allowed.   I fully agree that he SHOULD respect this request from the club, but I am wondering if the club would really be allowed to DQ this player for this, if it's not properly documented in their local rules/code of conduct?  This is an official national amateur tournament, so not just something organized by a club for its members.
    • A few months back I purchased the following swing aid on Amazon ($130). It is solidly made of steel and heavy and stable in use. I use it both at the range and at home. Swing Plate Dual PRO by Jamie Brittain - Swing Analyzer Aid - Fits Standard 8mm Alignment Rod Sticks - Teaching Swing Plane Perfector - Indoor/Outdoor Golfing Practice. This winter I set a goal for myself to improve my backswing/downswing to be more consistent and on plane. I had a two way miss with my approach shots this past golf season. I have a hitting set-up in my garage, but I needed something to provide feedback while swinging the club. I came across the Swing Plate while browsing YouTube.   I set it up with the correct angles for my 8 iron. I started out with just the back rod in place, which prevents me from getting too far inside on the backswing. Started out slow and as I got comfortable increased my swing speed. Now I also came across a YouTube video on building a better backswing and getting more width in the backswing and added that to my practice. That video is here:    This video is a bit wordy since you are basically a fly on the wall as Ian gets a lesson. It took a few replays to be able to get the substance of the instruction. It was well worth the effort. Over the last two weeks I have been able to get out on the course and gauge how successful my practice has been. Overall, my consistency with approach shots has improved greatly. Incorporating the added width in my swing has also added a few yards to all my clubs.  What has your off-season training been like?
