What car for cross country golf trip?

I'll be taking a cross country golf trip next year, and was wondering what would be the ideal car for this venture?

In order of most importance:

1. Shaggin' Wagon 2. Any kind of van (assuming you will be with friends) 3. Toyota Prius (for the mileage)

When I saw Dodge Durango, that was my first thought.

My parents drive a new(ish) Chevy Impala. Comfortable, cavernous trunk, decent passing power, and very good highway mileage. Not a good around town commuter, but good for long hauls.

GET A MOPED.

Seriously though, If it's not that much for you, a nice Infiniti FX35 2003 edition is perfect. It's not a prius on gas mileage (average around 17 mpg), but it's very very comfortable, and it's not huge. Plus, it maintains it's re-sale value very well.

I would use the one I drive now... 2003 Honda Accord V-6 Coupe. 32 mpg on the open road with the A/C going full blast (over 400 mile cruising range per tank), good tunes, cruises as fast as you dare to go (tops out around 130 mph ). Room for 2 golf bags in the trunk (if you have a buddy ride with you), a couple of suitcases in the back seat. What else do you need?

I did a week long golf road trip this last summer... no problems.

the only way the durango gets 25MPG is falling off a cliff. I am actually shocked you get 19MPG in your Ram. My ford explorer (smaller then both) averages (mixed city and highway) around 15.5 or 16. I used to drive the older 5.9 Durrango, and that got like 10 or 11.

The sticker on the durango is 14/20 if you get the 6 cyl and 13/18 if you get the 8 cyl with 4wd. http://autos.yahoo.com/2009_dodge_durango/

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Don't trust your brother's golf scores. Your brother gets a combined 25 mpg when the EPA estimated highway mileage is <20mpg for the 2WD V6 (14 City and 19 Hwy).

Most people think of the 4WD versions of the Dodge Durango. A typical Durango (2005 4.7 L V8) is 12 mpg City and 17mpg Hwy. Not good. EDIT: you beat me to the punch clearwaterms!!

My wife's Honda Ridgeline gets 19 city and 23 highway... not terrible for a 4wd V6.

I love my 328i, but it's not easy sliding one or two golf bags in there. My friend has a 2006 Camry that eats golf bags, fits 4 in the trunk easy, probably take a 5th. Also very comfortable for a cross-country haul, reasonably powerful 4 cylinder engine, and really good gas mileage for such a spacious car. Camry, Accord, Malibu-all would work great.

First, I'm jealous you're going on such a trip. Second, I like the Chevy Malibu or Honda Accord as others mentioned. They are great on gas, have enough room in the trunk and are good all-around cars.

Unless you're going where bad weather is an issue. Then I might find a small SUV that is good on gas so putting it in 4WD is an option. I have a Jeep Liberty and LOVE it, but it's horrible on gas, just horrible.

Get a New Subaru Outback. Good overall for your wants / needs.
Mileage is good especially with the 4cyl CVT.

      I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
