How long is your driver shaft (thats what she said)

I've been reshafting everything to 45" playing length. Seems to work well, but I do have a 44.25" driver setup that I'm going to try an see how it does.

I read through all the post on this thread and I see a pattern that most of the single digit handicap players that have posted use drivers less then 45 inches ...I recently bought a driver (traded in to my local EW by a guy off the mini tours here in FL) and it was 44.5 inches (see sig). I have only played with it a few times as I had shoulder surgery in January but I will tell you that I was way more consistent off the tee and did not seem to loose yardage. I have struggled with consistency off the tee for the last two years and my low rounds (in the 70's) come when I drive the ball well or just hit my 3 wood or hybrid off the tee. I am really excited about getting back to my game after this long recovery from my surgery as I think playing with the shorter driver is going to re-vamp my game off the tee...

I'm 5'11.79" and my driver is 44.5" long. I get better control and would sacrifice little distance for greater control any day! Whatever works, works...

I went from a 46.0" driver to a 44.5 inch driver, and im 6f3, best thing i ever did. Its just like swinging a 3 wood but still has the same distance.

i play an r7 limited tp with the tp diamana white board. it comes stock at 45 1/4" i believe. i cut it to 44 3/4 because it made it a little stiffer flex and i get more control. i don't sacrifice much distance, infact i believe i am hitting the ball further and straighter than ever.

Depends when I play--during the day, I use a 44" V2 stiff shaft on my 907D2. At night, it's a 6 5/8" xtra-stiff shaft of dy-no-mite straight into the green (sometimes on the fringe).

I notice most people are happier with shorter shafts. I've been arguing this point for some time. Adding more length to the shaft decreases control, but has almost no appreciable increase in distance. Swing robots, which can swing a longer and a shorter shaft the same (most people will swing a longer shaft slower due to the extra weight), show that an extra inch of shaft adds just 2 yards per inch with a 100 mph swing. That means that if you have a 46" shaft, and you pure it, you're gaining just 4 yards over a 44" shaft.

And where it gets more complicated, is when you realize that the longer the shaft, the less your on center hit percentage will be. When you miss the center, your smash factor plummets. Spin goes up, ball speed goes down, and distance drops like a rock. So, shorter shafts almost always mean longer, straighter drives. I think that very few people should ever have a driver shaft longer than 44".

I just finished cutting down my 2007 burner. I took roughly 2 1/2 inches off the tip, from 46 to 43.5.

I hit the hosel with a heat gun until the shaft came out, cut it, sanded the paint off, lightly sanded the inside of the hosel, used 24 hour epoxy.

Cannot wait to try it.

Someone way back in this thread said gripping down is better than cutting? I have to strongly disagree just out of personal preference. If I grip down, the club feels way more loose because the palm of my hand cannot secure the butt end.

I got 2 drivers that split time in the bag....1st driver is Alpha C830.2 House of Forged Taiwan Proto shaft plays 46.75".....2nd driver is Geek Failsafe 3 House of Forged Jamie Sadlowski signature plays 45.5"
