A round of golf with three clubs

My club used to have a competition where you were only allowed three clubs (plus your putter). It was the full 18 holes and it was Stableford.

Which three clubs would you take and why?

I'd go for a four iron, an eight and a wedge - my course is not long so wouldn't need the driver

5 wood or 2 hybrid,7 iron and a 56* sand wedge.I worked it out that your
average par 4 will be 380 yards.I'm allowing you 220yrds off the tee which
wiil leave you 150 front 160 middle and 170 back of green,your 7 iron should cover this and your sand wedge for those errand shots.

3 hybrid, 7iron and 56...maybe a 52 instead depending what the course is like

It would depend on the course, but the default would be:

2 iron (yes, 2 iron)
7 iron
56* wedge

I can keep the 2 iron in the fairway with a low flight more than I can the 3 wood. And I don't own a 5 wood.... yet.

3 iron for the tee, 6 iron for 140-175 yd layups, and a good ol PW for anywhere around the green.

I don't really understand why people are going for a driver and a hybrid.
I did a 3 club + putter competition in the summer and got 34 points in a stableford and came second. The winner had 35. I used 20* hybrid, 7 iron and a 54* wedge which i think worked perfectly.

we sometimes go out in the afternoon with only three clubs. I always take a 3H, 7iron and wedge. I have also played with 4H, 9 iron and putter. Every once in a while we only play with one club. It makes you think a lot about where you want to leave the ball.

I'd take a 4hybrid, 7iron, and a 51 degree approach wedge.

A few coworkers and I play this way at least 4 times a month after work. I always find it interesting that when limited to 3 clubs(4 including putter), the shot making and fairways hit are so much better. The scores are usually better as well. We are rarely searching for balls hit way right or left. I think alot of us would be better off if we limited ourselves to a half set of clubs and left the driver in the closet.

4 Hybrid, 7 iron and my 56. I have bizarre confidence with each of these clubs which I think (hope?) would translate into that extra bit of control and placement.

I considered this option as well. I also considered taking a driver in case I need to take 2 club lengths relief. Then I decided to not hit the ball into the gorse.
