Back when I was playing a lot, I would carry a 6 iron round 185-190 with a ss in the low 90s. Nowadays, it's more like 175-180 because I don't hit it nearly as flush, except when I do and fly the green by 10 yards

Depending on if i chose the hit the ball mid or high, I fly a 6i between 165-175. The high ball will carry further for me. Both trajectories will end up in about the same spot. I use rifle 6.0 shafts.

I'm not sure that these how far does your whatever iron fly matter much. I think most people need to focus on what the fast swing they can make while keeping the ball going where they want. to many high handicappers try to hit everything with everything they have. I realize the length is always fun to compare but length doesnt insure a low score. With that said I hit my 6 iron 185-190 in the summer this time of year closer to 180. I use dynamic gold sensicore x

well im pretty sure the question we shud be as king is do u hit ur 6 iron straight ? :P
that said i manage to get my six iron carry about 185-190 yards . and advise me on this, that if i get a new set of irons(current ones are about 10-15 years old) would that translate into an increase in distance provided that evrything else remains constant ?

i am amazed how far people can carry a 6 iron. CARRY? I have looked through the pro players stats and most of them are 180-185. So i would think that as amateurs we cannot be as far as this.

If I am on the fairway, 165-170 from flag then that is my 6 iron. Nice easy swing focusing on solid contact rather than trying to force a 7 iron.

From the tee on a par 3 I might use 6 iron from 175-180.

Why would a 1/2 decent amateur not be able to carry a 6-iron as far as a pro? There are a lot of long hitting amateur golfers out there - especially with today's stronger lofted irons.

If people said they hit the green as often as a pro with a 6-iron . . . now that would be pure nonsense.

What is the loft of your 6 irons ? Some irons are stronger in loft thus it might give you further distance .

My 6 irons loft is 32 degree , fitted with Rifle 5.5 and i m hitting it 175 ~ 180 Y.

There are no 6i shots at my course so I don't know. But my 7i goes 145-150.

Huh? I don't this.... you have never hit a 6I? You've never misshit a club and left yourself one club farther away than a 7I? It just seems hard to comprehend. Do you never play a punch when it's windy... like a 3/4 punch 6I instead of a 7I into a stiff breeze? Or do you just play a par 3 course with a lot of short holes?

Trying to understand how you arrive at never hitting a 6I.
