Anyone experience reduced iron distance when switching to Mizuno irons from another brand? I recently made the move to MP-58s from 20-yr-old 845s. Granted, it's a move from a cast club to a forged, so that may account for some of the distance. Thanks for your responses!

I don't know what the lofts are on both sets, but that would be the first thing to look at. If the Mizunos have weaker lofts then they would obviously be shorter. Second would be the shafts. Different shafts (weight, flex, length) could cause a different distance. Third would be the weight. Maybe the Mizunos are heavier and you just can't swing them quite as hard. My last thing would be the grooves on your old set. My guess would be that they are worn down and you don't get as much spin with them. More spin with the newer, sharper, grooves of the Mizunos would mean a little less distance.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

i swiched to the mizuno mp 32's from some old ping eye 2's and i did gain about 5 to 10 yards on most of my irons but ya it is the same as yours going from a old club to a totally new club i hit the ball way better now and have improved a few strokes just from swiching

My Mizunos are longer than any of my other blades. That's why I play them at the start of the season then move to the Hogans by July.

I picked up around half a club moving from some ancient Powerbilts to my MX-23s. I also hit a bunch of new clubs before going with the 23s, and I would say they're as long as anything out there except perhaps the R7s.

That said, I did notice a little less distance when demo'ing MP-52s, but the ball was ballooning and had a very high flight, so very well could have been shaft related.

You cant really compare the 2 sets of clubs unless the lofts and shafts are the same. Its like comparing apples to oranges.

I've had a big drop in distance since going from TM Tour Burners to my MP 52s. The lofts are 1 or 2 degrees different, the TM's were stronger lofted, but the difference appears to be bigger than that, almost a club.

I demo'd a couple different brands, and though the feel of the mizuno's was great, i did not notice that they hit the ball farther than any other club. Taylormades had the best distances, more than likely loft, but titleist, cleveland and callaways seemed to fly as far if not farther than Mizunos.

I've only ever had one cast set of irons and when I switched to the mx 23s I lost a little distance but not a club. It ended up being the lofts but I eventually got it back. When I went to the 57s I pretty much stayed the same maybe hit them a little further. I do think that going from cast to forged takes sometime to get used to it. Cast irons just don't have the feel of forged irons although forged and cast irons have both come a long way.

Exactly. It's the shafts.

I'm MUCH longer with my MP-57s vs anything I've ever hit.

I lost a club when I switched to the MP 60s. Maybe it was the shaft but needless to say those have been taken out of play. I just couldn't hit them high enough to carry the ball.

Now this one makes sense - whether different irons are a club long or short, who cares - as long as you can still make the shot you want. It sounds like you couldn't pull a club to make your shot.

How is the sound of the Mizuno? I use tailormade but tested a Nike it was ok but sounded horrible

A purely struck Mizuno 5-iron sounds like the laughter of children on Christmas morning.

    • I usually like to fix the face, first, as the path is most often the compensation for the open face rather than the other way around. If you could get some good down-the-line and face-on video in slow motion, it'd go a long way toward helping. It's tough to see the face and I think the face-on view would show that you're not turning as much as you could/should.
    • Day 86 (26 Jul 25) - Down at the beach place, had kept the clubs with me after playing yesterday.  Spent time this afternoon checking them over and brushing grooves on the wedges and irons.  Spent a few minutes working thru the swing process…working in slo mo through backswing and proper weight shift.
    • . I've been Playing Golf for: 10 years, 1 year consistently  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 My typical ball flight is: fade The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: inconsistent ball strike   I caught the bug about a year ago and have been playing roughly once a week. Have been getting better with my short game and putting but my ball striking from tee and fairway lets me down. Had my first lesson last month which identified an over the top swing compensated by an open club face. Have been trying everything to get on plane over the last month. Have found that using a bend and press into my left leg as the trigger for my downswing coupled with finding the turn and rotation in both my arms to release the club properly has helped my get nearer to the correct plane. Video below is where I am with it currently. Haven’t taken this new swing to the course yet! Any comments or suggestions are welcome  Videos:  I've been Playing Golf for: 1 year properly  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 av score
    • That's always been the deal. You put in the work hyper focused on ONE or at most two things, so that you don't have to think about anything except a single feel or the target or something on the course.
    • Blind squirrel finds a nut and putted well. no, I decided to play a round being athletic rather than paralyzing myself with swing thoughts. I have no clue if I was doing what I worked on. It was the last day and I was tired of freezing at the top of the swing not know if one of four outcomes were going to happen.
