So I just saw on Playing Lessons that Stuart Cink uses standard length clubs and is 6'-4". Really making me wonder if I need shorter clubs if I am 8" shorter than him.

At 5'8" you are pretty much average height so standard clubs should be OK.

Cink might have longer arms than the average 6'4'' person. Most people taller than 6'2'' benefit from longer than standard shafts. Standard club lengths should be fine for you.

It really depends on many factors.

Wrist height from floor.

your posture at address.

and if your fitter is really good he will look at the lag in the club to see what the club head is doing at impact

im 5'6 with a 32" wrist height and not only did i cut down my club but i needed a -3 degree lie adjustment.

i would say as long as the lie of the club is correct you could just choke down on ure clubs like AK does.
but if your lie isnt correct you will do funky things with the ball when u make a solid stroke.

If you change the lie angle, thats really all that matters, so long as his back isn't hunched over too much.

BTW, his name is spelled "Stewart Cink"

Either you have long arms or I have alligator arms, just measured mine at 31' wrist to floor and I am 2" taller than you.

You are correct, I didn't think Stuart looked right.

As others said, one big factor is arm length/wrist-to-floor measurement (in your shoes, that is). Posture plays a part in it as well. I'm 6'3" and went 1.25" long and 2° upright, though I think my arms may be a tiny bit short for my height as well. I may also stay just a tiny bit upright at address, though I dont even think it's noticable. I keep between a 20 to 25° bend at my hips, which isn't out of the ordinary. It all goes back to the fact that different things work for different people. TW is listed at 6'1", but his clubs are 2° upright.

Another thing to take note of is that standard length differs a little between the manufacturers. Nike & Titleist (and possibly others) standard lengths are .25" longer than Mizuno's standard.

Another thing I dont think I saw anyone mention is the fact that Cink may have become so accustomed to standard clubs, that's what he has stuck with all this time. You gotta remember that different people learned different ways. I believe it was Vijay that first started cross-handed. Point being, it might just go back to what Cink is comfortable with and what he plays the best with.

In a nutshell, there are simply a ton of different factors that go into it, and the only way to find out what you really need is to get a professional fitting. Bet you didnt think you'd hear that one, did you??

I was disappointed - I thought maybe he was signed by the Red Wings for a short term contract - until Kronwall comes back.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
