Need help with a decision

Well after getting all of my golf equipment stolen, I'm looking to replace my clubs. As far as irons go, I have played the Ping G5s and the Callaway x22 Tours. The G5's, for me, launched too high, and the x22 Tours were almost a bit too much for my game. I can hit the tours VERY well if I am on, but on the days I am off, it'd be nice to have a little forgiveness. How are the Cleveland CG7's? and what other reccomendations for irons can yall give?

You might try the Ping I15. I test-hit them, and they have better feel than the I10. (I tested I10 against the Callaway X20 when I switched irons this summer. I10 felt klunky).

The I15 has...
* Tungsten toe weight borrowed from the S57 to increase foregiveness.
* Progressive head design - long irons larger than short irons.
* Moderate foregiveness and medium trajectory.

Have you tried the standard X22s? If you liked the Tours but want more forgiveness, the X22s are worth a look.

The short irons are quite clunky, but the long irons are very impressive.

I am looking for a new set since I bought mine before I knew about shaft stiffness...bought graphite. Anyways, I hit 5 irons last night 10 times each. I hit the Titelist 770 MB forged, Ping S57, Ping I15, Callaway X-22 Tour, and the Titelist AP1's.....the winner is def the AP1's. I brought my current 6 iron to golf galaxy and was hitting 163-170 on great feeling shots. I have no problem with my current irons other than they are a bit short and not stiff enough. Out of 10 shots with the S57's I hit 2 on the sweet spot and man it was nice. 185-190 6 iron. Plus it felt great...problem was that the other 8 shots left my hands stinging. I admit I'm not the best ball striker yet. Anyways I hit the AP1's on average 185 so I was pretty happy about that. Plus I hit 8 out of 10 with that sweet iron click. Plus they will give me $200 trade in on my current irons so Im looking forward to that income return.

They were stored in a locker at my home course. Probably someone who knew who I was or what clubs I had and figured out which locker was mine. I'm about to update my sig with what I got

You're signature got stolen!!!??? Fudge man, that sucks giant monkey balls!!!!!!! I attack the course with my signature and love PING, but friggin' Vijay Singh has me thinking about playing Cleveland's! Anyhow, I won't be biased, I mean, the i15's are really great clubs, a step up over the i10's. I think this year PING got playability and forgiveness together great!!! Cleveland CG7's on the other hand, I'm thinking about purchasing the Black Pearl Tour version; I've hit the CG7 Tour's and they were great! I can't say I wasn't surprised by the feedback since to the eye Cleveland irons look great so I was damn sure they played great. G5's are great clubs, and if price is no option, go with the G10's or even the G15's. Only reason I would pass down my G10's to my cousin's and not let them purchase the G15 is because they are just too bulky, but then again is for the extra forgiveness. Something inbetween the G5's and X-22 Tours could be the R9 irons if you'd play Taylormade irons. I would say go with the Cleveland CG7's but I've hit the Tour version so I'm not sure how convincing I'd be to try the non-Tour version. Give them a try and see what happens. The Titleist AP-1's are great game-improvement clubs and the AP-2's have recently been updated and are better than the first issued wave. The feel of the AP-2's was amazing this year than when I compared them to last years model. I'm not too sure about Cobra clubs, however the parent company is Titleist so they might be good, give the Cobra S2 irons a try. I guess they are like the AP-2's. I haven't hit them, but seen them in some high school tournaments, and they look pretty good. Too bad the owner couldn't hit them. I've even heard some good reviews. Go to your local pro shop, or golf store and hit some demo's and see what you like.

...do what I did, go to GG when there isn't a whole lotta ppl there. Ask a guy to get clubs to try out and slowly ask him questions about your lie, length and stuff to basically get fitted without having to pay for it. The guy I was working with pulled out the lie board and whatnot for me without saying anything about a fee. I was fitted in less than 45 mins, went online and got mine...ps,

Damn, that's a nice setup to get stolen. What's this world comin' to? It sickens me to think they're people co-inhabiting the same planet with us so low that they can't work to earn money to buy their own clubs so they have to steal someone elses, sheesh, what donks. Anyway, I have the CG7 Irons and really enjoy them. I am in the market for the new Nike VRs but I have really enjoyed my time with the CGs. They have great power, workability, and forgiveness. If you're hot then you're hot, but if you're off you still aren't doing that bad. I have a 3&4 hybrid in place of the 3i and 4i and I really wouldn't have it any other way.That's just personal preferance BTW. But if you're looking for an overall great iron IMO you can't go wrong with these. But if you're looking for one or more specific aspects of your game that you'd like to have more control over then I'd go with a more appointed club. Both X22 and the Tours have their own pros and cons like any other club. It's really what you are looking for in particular. Best of luck in your search! I strongly recommend Epon Forged 701 for great distance and maximum forgiveness. I used to switch my iron like every couple of months until I tried these. They stayed in my bag.

Not sure of the validity of your recommendation having never played them. To each his own.

I just bought the CG7 after trying various makes. Absolutely loved the feel, look, and ball flight. Now I just wait for spring to begin my love affair in earnest with them!

On another note, I was delighted to see your Kaiserslautern Red Devils emblem on your post. I lived in KL for 5 years and became a big fan of them. Going to one of their matches was comparable to going to an SEC football game. The passion of the fans was outstanding. FCKaaaah!!!!

Do you really think many of the high end pros really use the equipment of their sponsors? Sure some of them do, but it is customized far beyond what you and I can buy...even if you go to the manufacturer and are fit by them. But I would say just as many play, for example, Miura and have their sponsor stamped onto the iron. Look at the irons Fred Couples plays. Then compare them to what Bridgestone sells and what Miura offers.

I am not saying all OEM stuff is crap, but I do agree that the unknown is almost always superior. Even if the heads are equal, putting the right shaft and spineing(sp?) the shaft will help out a lot.
