I like watching the 16th hole, it actually adds something to the game that the players don't see every week, and allows them to actually show a bit of their personality. Some shine, some don't, that's just the way it is.

I missed Friday's round, and just caught the leaderboard, and was like "What happened to AK?".....

Two bogeys and a triple yields his 76. He had no birdies on Saturday.

Fowler, Sim, Clark, Watson... lots of laying up this season. Is it the grooves? Of course, David Toms laid up once a few seasons ago, and look where it got him...

I'm already tired of hearing about Ricky's layup. It's a high risk shot and have seen dozens of balls off in the pond and I've watched guys layup and make birdies! I was 5 feet from Greg Chalmers when he took his free drop off the cart path on the 15th today. He wanted to leave himself a 100yard shot and landed in closest to the pin. With one putt he birdied the hole.
I don't fault his decision! He felt he was giving himself the best shot.

None the less, it was a great day!! With the rain, majority of the drunk ASU students were back in there dorms playing video games or what ever. It seemed like there was only real Golf fans roaming around. The 16th was still rowdy and but not as crowed as it has been in the past.

I walked with Anthony Kim-Scott McCarron-Ben Crane group for 3 holes and then went on to Greg Chalmers-Bubba Watson-Ted Purdy group then on to watch J.B Holmes-Phil Mickelson-Scott Verplank until I rested into some great seats for the 16th hole. Watched a few groups till the last group came through and then followed them in to the 18th.
All in all, a great day walking around with my son and watching some Pros in action.

Ok I was watching the tourney today and had the sound up a bit with surround sound. I keep hearing this annoying nasal sound. Heavy almost sniffling noise. I am thinking to myself some sound engineer left a microphone channel open somewhere. How annoying.

Finally I realize it is one of the announcers. When he is not talking he is heavy breathing through his noise......it is Brandel Chamblee! What the heck is he doing, or are they doing not shutting down his mic when he is not talking? (I hope he just has a cold this week and this is not his normal deal) (or maybe they had his mic way too hot?)

I now have the replay on in the background as I type this and it is even more annoying than early today. One of those things that once your ear keys in on it you can't not hear it....

So am I crazy? (probably yes regardless of this post LOL) Or did anybody else hear the same thing all day?

On the lay up or not lay up deal with Fowler. I was actually surprised he did not hit his wedge a little better. He was 85 or so yards out to the front pin. Seems he might have hit his lay up a little further than he wanted to.

...he adjusted his sunglasses with his middle finger and of course that brought on some booing...

Poults pretty much always adjusts his glasses with his middle finger (so do I - in fact, I just did!). It's not flippingthe bird - it's the way he does it, a longstanding habit. The middle finger is 'known' in the UK but it's not as widely used as the two-fingered salute (to indicate - er - displeasure!). Not sure how widely used the two-finger jobbie is outside the UK; from what I understand, it's pretty much unique to GB & Ireland.

Having said that, there did seem to be something going on at the 16th yesterday - he seemed to be sarcastically applauding someone off to the left as the TV looked at the green (so to the right as played). Any idea what it was?

That's the best you got...

That happens with every manufacturer from time to time and probably more then we realize on the Tour because of all the use their clubs get. I guess then I could argue that he beat the field (shot 65) with 13 other PING clubs... You did not seem to mention that according to the broadcast he had PING build him new wedges at the beginning of the week (took the PING Eye 2 out of the bag) and his short game was very good all week...dang manufacturer...Ha! Ha! Man I cannot believe the number of PING haters out there...whatever..to each their own!

It was the wrong play. I don't care if he did make birdie - the odds of him doing so were greatly improved if he had gone for it. Shorter players had already gone for it in his group from farther back - and both made it. Rickie was battling for a win. He should have gone for it. Man up, dude.

Poults pretty much always adjusts his glasses with his middle finger...

Riiiiiiiiiiight. Dude, he was flipping people the bird, plain and simple. I should know - I'm the foremost authority on Ian Poulter's bird-flipping fetish.

He didn't even touch his glasses. He "fake scratched" his nose.

RF's inexperience is the explanation, or so the announcer proclaimed. I heard it would have been at most a 4-iron for him, a shot everyone on tour has. It boggles my mind how 49 yr. old Calcavecchia puts it over the water from further back, and Fowler lays up. I'm sure he'll learn from that.

And as far as Poulter goes, I just laugh at him. He couldn't care less what people think about him, or so I surmise. He's turning into the J.R. Ewing of the Tour. I'm indifferent about him as a player, so whatever.

What's the deal with Snedeker (his 78 was tied for the worst round of the day)? The bogey-double-double finish (when he was out of contention) made the debacle seem worse than it probably was, but still ... I wonder if the demons from the BMW last year are still haunting him.

In his post round comments Ricky said he wanted a 5 iron in his hands to go for it. I've heard several times this year that his layup distance is 100 yards, so with him 85 out he did miss that target too. His other two playing partners went for it and made it, but something like 75 of 250 players going for it there made it.

Should he have done for it? Probably. But its not like that hole lost the tournament for him.

Yeah, he's not in the CA Championship (WGC event), he's not in the Masters... all because of that three-putt (the fourth putt was extra irrelevant IIRC).

I'm impressed with what I've seen from Rickie Fowler thus far. Not just the results in the standings but his demeanor and shot making late in the later part of his round yesterday. My big complaint thus far this golf season has been that I've seen more guys winning on Sundays because they made less mistakes than the next guy rather than winning because they made more shots. Yesterday was an awesome Sunday to watch from home because Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler were stepping their games up when it mattered.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
