I go to my local Edwin Watts...the Manager and I have become friends over the last two years and he works with me very well on things...plus it is a cool place to just go hang out and talk golf or hit balls in the hitting bay or hit putts on their big putting green.

I know a local club pro at one course and course staff at a different course so I usually buy anything I need from one of them at a friend discount.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Lately Golfsmith has been very good to me, so I do almost all of my local shopping there. I get my online clubs from ebay and 3balls, just like everyone else.

Which PGA superstore? The one in the southeast or northwest corner of Plano?

As a walk-in, I am willing to drive over 10 mi. to the PGA Superstore as they have the widest selection - including demos on clubs. And, will frequent smaller nearby Vann's Pro Shop (a chain) and I give some biz to a local called Sierra Golfworks. I have sympathy there in this economy, I hope they can survive it.

However, I buy alot online. Ebay has worked so far as had TGW and Edwin Watts equally. Once in ahwile, I even look on Amazon.

Oh, if you want a real discount on the newer dri-fit style shirts that may be last year's model, try Ross. That secret could save all of us hundreds of dollars - look how most places charge $30-65/shirt in the newer tech. collared versions. I get 'em at Ross for about $15 ea. - Nike, Adidas, generics, etc...

Finally, I'm jealous of anyone living on a course as I would do the same ( Randy4h - Don't need to buy balls (live on a course).) In my high school days, I lived about 1/2 mi. from the Country Club in small town and I often fished out balls from the pond near the 8th hole in the eve around the sprinklers. I'd still do it now if I had the opportunity! Or, maybe the yard just serves up as a nice bait trap for errant shots - all good stuff!

    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
