I finally done it,I shot under 100!
Feels good but I actually thought I be more excited,I think its because I am a little pissed off with myself as if I had kept my head together I could have easily shot in the low 90's as It was I got a 99...

I went around the front 9 in 44 which is my best 9 hole score to date,I started great on the back 9 with a par on the par 3 10th,I knew I was on course to break the 100 at that stage as I had 5 pars on the front 9 so after 10 holes I had 6 pars, which for me was just great actually for me that was monumental as I usually be lucky to get 3-4 pars a round ,I actually got 4 pars in a row on the front 9.

Things started going a little pear shaped then,I got a 9 then a 8,I turned it around a small bit after that and ended up with a 55 on the back 9 for a over all score of 99.

I thought I would feel great when I eventually broke 100 but to be honest I am a bit mad over some of the shots on the back 9,I know for some reading this they might think big deal he got 99 I'd do that in my sleep, but I'm just glad to finally have it off my back as it has been on my mind everytime I go to play.

I think the fact I knew I was on course to break the 100 made me a little nervous,so hopefully the next day I can relax and try and break 100 more often and eventually break 90 or at least shoot low 90's as often as I can,at least the 100 barrier has finally been broken, actually now that I'm writing this I'm starting to feel a bit more excited about breaking it! Think I'll go have a few Guinness

Congrats. I'm sure knowing you could have shot lower is bugging you, but realize it's just the beginning and you'll have many opportunities to shoot lower. I'm fairly new to the game as well, and it's great to break barriers.

Congrats!!! Now you need to start looking at that 90. Keep up the great work and you'll be there soon... Doesn't matter how low you go, we all think about the "what if's"...

Congratulations! Even though you are upset with the back nine, once you acvhieve a goal or break a barrier, it will instantly be easier to continue to break that barrier. That means that from this point on, you should be able to break 100 again, and hopefully, grow to break is consistently! That IMO, is the positive thought hat you should look at.

Congrats on breaking the barrier ! Don't let the disaster holes get you down, everyone has them. The fact that you were able to turn it around after them is what counts and will count in the long run. Keep that part in mind.

Cheers !

That's golf summed up, right there. No matter how well you do, you could always have done better!

Well done though, 100 is a real milestone to have broken!

The main thing is to break 100.
It's a huge mental block for many people, most can't get past it either.

You'll shoot a lot lower now that you've broken 100.

I felt the same way! I thought about breaking a 100 so much that when it happened I was like where is my prize?! haha now its time to break 90!

when i was younger and just starting out, my dad gave me some great advice. i try and give the same advice to my friends that are still high handicappers. Play for bogey!

Forget par even exists. if you play bogey golf you're shooting 90 or sub 90 all day long and statistically better than 80+% of golfers. what happens is people are so fixated with getting a par that they try to hard to create shots. lets take a par 4 for example:

the high handicapper trying to make par will hit a drive into trouble. for their second shot, they think they need to get onto the green. so they try to hit a miraculous very low percentage shot. this will more than likely get them into trouble and bring the big number into play.

now if you're playing for bogey golf, you have an extra shot to get on in "regulation." instead of the low percentage shot, you pitch back out onto the fairway and give yourself a very high percentage shot to the green. this essentially takes the big number out of play and gives you a putt for par and a two putt for bogey.

playing for bogey is the smartest thing a high handicapper can do. it teaches course management and gives you the best chance at a good score. naturally, as you progress you'll want to take risks in order to lower your score, but for the time being playing for bogey is the way to go.

That's a tough one to do. First time I broke 100 was a 92, from the tips. That was pretty cool. After that, you sort of feel like you can then take on the next goal (break 90), and then you figure you can break 80, etc.

how is your handicap 23 if youve never broken a hundred

Congrats on breaking the 100 barrier, forget about feeling bad for the 9 and 8, don't forget that you were 44 after 9,and parred 10, so you were well on your way to < 90, if you didn't make a couple of bad shots you would have shot an awesome round, so instead of getting mad, step back and look at it as a stepping stone, you had a good rd going so now you should realize that you CAN score if you can minimize the REAL bad shots/decisions.

Enjoy it, next time you'll be aiming for 90.
