I'm a 8.7 handicapper from the UK looking to buy a new driver this year. I'm not going to buy off the shelf as I want to get correctly fitted by an expert.

I've found this guy on the web who is very close to where I live ( http://www.leeporter.eu/ ) and according to his site, it all looks good.

His site mentions a lot of club manufacturers I've never heard of - Mitsubushi, Yoshitaka, Nakashima, Miura, KZG.

Have you heard of these manufacturers before and if so, any feedback on the quality of their products?

Thanks

Stuart

My Nike driver comes with a Mitsubishi shaft as standard, so it must be up to scratch for Nike to use them.
I haven't heard of the other makes before (it looks like the invite list to a Japanese tea party!), but looking at the chap's website they're all gorgeous looking.

Putter - TaylorMade Rossa Corza Ghost
Wedges - Titleist Vokey Oil Can; 50/08, 54/14, 58/04
Irons - Mizuno MP53 4-PW
Hybrid - Mizuno MP CLK 3 iron
Rangefinder - Bushnell Tour V2Ball - Pro V1s / Srixon Z Star Yellow

Unless you pay for the upgrade of the shaft: the Mitsubishi/Rayon shafts on drivers aren't the custom shafts that you'd purchase from them... A lot of companies now are offering Diamana (REAL DIAMANA) shafts as an upgrade to your stock shaft.
Best bet is to just let him fit you.
The Mitsubishi Diamana shafts are GREAT. I use the WhiteBoard D73 in my driver. It's around $299 for the shaft. Woods I like them heavier so I use BlueBoard D83.

Miura is a GREAT iron manufacturer. Many say that Nike bit some of their design of the blades when coming up with Tiger's blades.... some even rumored that Tiger had Miura make his blades and they put a nike stamp on it....

I've played a few rounds with their blades and they're dope...

Mitsubishi makes great shafts - I have four of them in my clubs (non-standard in driver ; standard in my 4W, hybrids).

Miura's blades are the irons of legend. KZG is a known components and custom club manufacturer. I now need to expand my knowledge on the other two. Thanks for teaching me something about golf equipment.

KZG is not a component company we do not sell to the public. We do sell to our dealers whom have to be professional fitters. Dealers can buy the heads from us and build them to your fitted specs. Yes all the forgings are done in Japan and the clubs are very high end.

Yes, sorry -- I should not have meant that they were where anyone could buy the clubhead, etc. My mistake.

You say "our" : are you with KZG?

She can come across mean yes, I work with her everyday and can tell you she is straight up passionate so she can come across harsh at times you just have to understand her. She actually has a heart of gold but pisses off alot of people because she is so passionate and demands perfection. I can tell you she just sent back an entire shipment of our new driver line that is coming out because they were one gram off spec. Everything here is precise and exact so the product is unbeatable when fit by a pro fitter. Most of the people she pissed off were home shop club builders that she closed down and wouldn't sell to anymore.

I think you are talking about the big ugly? The "Q". It's red tail is ugly and it's real loud off the face but it works. The "Q" is a couple years old now and our brand new model for this year is actually very traditional high MOI, all black with a black face, very cool looking and a monster off the tee.

Not quite. I owned a Q ML and 4w, damn good heads and not bad looking at all IMHO. Wish it came with a square to open face and I may still have it.

I'm talking about this MONSTEROSITY!!!

katsuhiro(sp?) miura is the greatest forger in the world. he's done top of the line blades for nike and tm. kzg are good as well. although, both are pretty soft so you might have to get them reshaped periodically.

    • Yes. The full swing is not that different, and speed is important with all of them. You don't see Tour players hitting their driver 310 and then hitting their 7I 160. Of course, but they're nothing like those for the full swing.
    • How about with the high numbered irons such as the 9 iron? Is the swing the same with that? If that's the case then I stand corrected.  OK, although there is physics involved in the putt too.
    • I have a master's in Spanish linguistics and I like black holes.
    • I didn't say it was unfeasible. That's not what you said. And… be careful there. Not around the club's COM, man.
    • Our public course has red penalty areas marked with red stakes. The stakes are imprecisely placed, often overgrown or missing. Our golf club has no control over how the stakes are placed. We have therefore decided to create a local rule to define the penalty areas by physical features and ignore the red stakes.  Also, most of the currently marked penalty areas are because of an overgrown creek behind dense ground vegetation. The penalty areas are marked (roughly) at the edges of the dense vegetation (see picture example). Players cannot see the creek. The dense vegetation looks the same on holes where there is no creek and no penalty area. For consistency and to reduce confusion, we have decided to define all edges of dense ground vegetation as penalty area.   This adopts a popular USGA recommendation from 2019. Committee Procedures 2C(2) cautions: "A Committee may define the edge of a penalty area by clearly describing it in writing but should do so only if there will be little or no doubt where the edge is. For example, where there are large areas of lava or desert that are to be treated as penalty areas, and the border between these areas and the intended general area is well defined, the Committee could define the edge of the penalty area as being the edge of the lava bed or desert."  We are going ahead, but IMO "little or no doubt" is not possible. For example, the "edge of desert", no matter how "well defined" is often not a distinct line. Sand and grass may intermingle. An edge defined this way will never be as clear as stakes or a line. We will see what happens!  Other comments: I believe the change will improve pace of play. And have minimal effect on handicaps. (Seems like I saw a study of this, but unable to find it again.)    Does anyone have a similar experience with defining penalty areas by physical features? How did that go?
