You know, I kinda like the demenor of Peter Alliss, the swing knowledge of Peter Kostis, and Millers frank style. Rather play a round with McCord & Feherty though.

By the way, Faldo has contracted with the Golf Channel to be the lead analyst for the Tournaments they produce in 2007.

Did you catch Lanny on the air this week? Discussing the 667 yd. 16th @ Firestone he said, "That is one BIG HAIRY HOLE!"

All mics went silent. Not even a comment from McCord or Faherty.

I've been asking everyone at my club if they taped it. A couple of guys noticed the comment, but no tapes, yet. One friend of mine may have TIVO'd it. If so and I may be able to get a tape.

Wadkins is out!!!! Faldo is in!!!!!

Outstanding! That's fantastic news. Golf on CBS has just become imminently more watchable.

Wow, that's great news. Looks like 2007 will be the year of the Faldo with all the TV coverage he will be doing!

Took the words out of my mouth. I preferred CBS's coverage, but liked the Faldo/Azinger pairing more than any other. With Faldo at CBS, it will be even better.

This is the best news I have heard in a LONG time. MAN alive that is going to make the Masters and all CBS coverage a million times better!

I can handle someone like Faldo, he does excellent in the booth and even if he were nearly as critical as Lanny at least it would be coming from someone who actually has a right to criticize, unlike our friend Mr. Wadkins.

Not all of Lanny's criticisms bothered me, and regarding his credentials, I think he's no less qualified to criticize than anyone else in the announcing booth. He did, after all, have 21 tour wins.

However, when Lanny's off on something... he's WAY off. For instance, at The Masters a couple years back, Lanny observed DiMarco laying up on a par 5 (15, I think) and criticized him for "playing for second place." I don't think DiMarco even knows what that means. Plus, Lanny just irritates me. He never shuts up. He loves the sound of his own voice. He offers no real insight. He states the painfully obvious, like, "He's going to have to get this up and down to save par." He refers to things he likes as "solid" at least nine hundred times per telecast. In short, he just wasn't very pleasant to listen to. Faldo will be a very welcome change.

I usually don't really care who is announcing, but this one instance did bug me a bit. It was funny when DiMarco stuck it tight and made the birdie though (I believe he did anyway). That plastered a little egg on Lanny's face.

Like I said, I could care less who is announcing. I never pay much attention, but little things strike me wrong every once in awhile. If I had to pick, I'd definitely take Faldo over Wadkins though. Faldo, Feherty, and McCord are going to be a riot together! But take this for what it's worth. My favorite crew is the NBC crew, and not many people around here care for that one.

Peter Alliss I think. He's a BBC announcer.

Speaking of British commentators, does anyone else remember the inimitable Henry Longhurst? He had great knowledge of golf history and tradition as well as the technical side of course, and spoke with wit and style. Used to watch him in the 60's and 70's, long before I took up the game myself. Sounded a bit like he had a golf ball stuck in the back of his throat, you know what ..

I'm sure Longhurst wouldn't be druelling over Tiger the way Lanny and others do these days (I just love piling on like this teehee ....). It's just pathetic to listen to, they go on and on with nothing original or insightful to say about him most of the time except, "Gee, wasn't that another just amazing shot yada yada", I sometimes feel like hitting the mute button like someone else said. How much do they get paid for spouting this drivel again? Give us all a break Lanny and most of the rest ...... I agree, Faldo has some style, a nice light humorous touch and comes up with original thoughts occasionally. And not just because he's a Brit either .. It was Longhurst who said: “ Golf is a game in which you yell "Fore!", shoot six, and write down five ". I say, in those days commentators - and golfers - were Gentlemen, you know old Chap ....

I like Faldo/Zinger combo as well. Wouldnt you like to see Couples as a commentator?

I think Fred Couples would be a horrible announcer. You can't be laid back in the booth.

    • Day 159 1-19 Flow drill while attempting to add arch in wrist on downswing. Not where it needs to be but felt good working on swing flow.
    • Day 1 (19 Jan 26) - after a week lay-off due to travels, felt great to get in some drills in the backyard today.  Started with lead arm only short pitches focused on squared face and light divot post ball.  Haven’t done this in a while and it showed, with some skulls and slices.  Settled into easy flighted balls - wrapped up with standard two handed swings.  Good restart to the daily drills.
    • That depends what you do within those two.  Are they your only options?   Check out Fit for Golf if you get a moment.  It's linked on the sidebar;  I did it for two years, stopped for a really bad reason, and I plan to get back to it soon.   Mike Carroll also has a great free podcast about a lot of topics in golf fitness.
    • Day 19, 1/19.  Finished work in time to spend 25 minutes hitting balls (hit 15) indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Usual focus.
    • Day 30 - 2026-01-19 Got 10 minutes in on the mat / net working on exagerrating movements I'm working on. And grip. Also worked with my friendly AI to summarize key negative tendencies I have so that I can build a personal checklist to follow. Will do more mirror work tonight.
