GPS - Can it tell how far I just hit?

I'm just getting back into golf after 12 years off and I'm looking at the IZZO Swami 1500 GPS unit that is under $100.

I am wondering if this (or other) GPS units can tell me how far I just hit after I walk to the ball. Can it measure from point A to point B or does it only tell me how far to the green from where I am standing? What if I'm not at a golf course?

I'm not sure if all of them can. But I have a Golflogix GPS and it will measure your shots yes. Great tool to have

I don't know about that one, but my uPro does measure that. The uPro will also let you look at the course while at home if you have the Pro Mode downloaded and on 'Preview'.

Some GPS units have this function, but I don't believe the Swami does.

The Sureshot GPS unit has this functionality as well, along with the ability to store distances for each club.

what you could do is see how far you are from the hole at the tee then check and subtract it from your second shot

Bushnell Neo has that function. For an additional $20 it might be worth looking into.

That only works on a straight hole. If it doglegs, then that plan is useless.

ehhh not to be a smartass or anything...but you can do that with any gps , no??? it's very simple subtraction i would think.

according to the izzo website , this does not tell how far you have hit your ball. I would suggest the Neo from bushnell. It costs the same ($99) and you it will tell you your distances you hit your ball.

Lasers can do this too. Yardage to the flag. Find your ball mark in relation to the flag. If you're any good, it's within a few yards. Add or subtract from the yardage you measured before.

If you had read my post on the first page you would already have the answer. This only works if the hole is straight,and you hit your ball straight. Any angles that come into the formula skew the answer.

I also got a Golflogix GPS and you simply press the enter button and it will start calculating the distance as you walk. Awesome little GPS for the price if you don't care about graphics. It's also great that you don't have to pay an annual fee to keep it running like most of them. Once your 20 favorite courses are loaded on the unit, your good to go. The only reason you would have to pay the annual fee is if you need to load some different courses for a trip or if your course had some major changes done and you want them on the GPS.
