Well, let me tell a few stories of my outing this past weekend. Had a 12:20 tee time with the boys on Saturday. We are all excited as the weather here in Dallas has SUCKED this winter and it's now finally getting nice. We wake up Sat morning to acceptable 10-15 mph winds. As we started to drive out to the course (Robson Ranch in Denton) we started noticing more wind and more wind. Got to the range and let the fun begin. Took me about 10 minutes to find out what I could get 92 yards. Typically its my 54º, not today! 9 Iron baby! How about 165......5 Iron, HA! Front nine was ok to say the least. Hit almost 4 clubs more than would normally use, but we were having fun. My brother, about a 10 hc, on the longest par 5 on the course, dead into the wind, hit driver-driver-3 wood-9iron-PW-1 putt for a bogie!

We had some laughs that day for sure. It sucks that we can't play more during the week or we would have cancelled the outing. Oh yeah, and what made the day, one of our good friends had a free foursome coupon.

I played in the same conditions on Sunday at Twin Wells in Irving--it was a three+ club wind. Scored well (84) considering--driver was on, only missed four fairways. With the wind, I was able to drive the green one par 4

I was about to post on this, I was out playing my first round of the season on Saturday as well, out in Lewisville (so just a few miles south of you). The wind was outrageous, none of us could keep our bags from blowing over, even the one on a pull cart.

I once hit a 7-iron off the tee into the wind and watched as a slight fade slowly ballooned and turned into a slice, and actually started to come back at me. It landed and rolled a solid 10 feet backward on the fairway. It was so bad that putting was even effected. On one hole a minute-long gust kept our balls from staying still on the green. And the rest of the day and downhill putt with the wind would go 15 feet even if you barely tapped the ball. The game was good for a few laughs and a bit of a gentle warmup for the year, but the wind made any serious playing just annoying. It really rattled my mental game.

When conditions are that bad I try to forget score, and see it as a challenge to see if I can create some shots outsice of my normal range, super low, long bump and run shots into greens etc.

40 MPH is a lot isn't it?
And it was only a 2 club wind?

I thought 40 MPH meant you could barely swing and the ball starts rolling itself on the green....

This past weekend we had 40mph long gusts of wind and steady 25mph wind. One extra club per 10mph is my rule of thumb (except for anything over 52 degrees of loft, where you can really lose exponential distances into a strong wind)

The fun part is keeping the ball on the actual tee. I had more than one address where the ball fell off the tee from the wind on my backswing.

Having high wind is annoying, but I don't mind how much it effects my shot so much as I mind how it effects my body. I hate setting up and taking a backswing while fighting to keep my balance perfectly centered. Sure I'm not about to fall over, but when the wind is coming from straight behind you at 20 - 30mph, it's like having someone lean on you as you swing. Very distracting.

Yeah, keeping the ball on the tee was a chore. Also what was fun, was waiting for your ball to stop moving around on the green so you could putt it, HA!! Then in the middle of a backswing, the wind gusts, blows you around, blows the ball around..........needless to say, score meant nothing that day!!

So kewl, we have our own Texas thread, LOL

I played with uttexas at Twin Wells......the wind was a beating.....with the wind, 8 iron from 175.....against the wind, 8 iron from 130.....it was crazy.....UT did drive a 330 yard par 4, it was sweeeeet.....and he birdied the hole, I think.... Had the same wind yesterday afternoon at the range.....was at Golden Bear, where the wind was right in your face.....also, the balls were moving on the green.....this wind is crazy......I'm used to 15mph stuff, but wow....

I played Plantation in Frisco on Saturday and shot 99. And that was with a couple of stupidly played holes and should have shot about 94.

Like the rest of you, I was having problems keeping the ball from rolling where ever it decided to. Had to back off several times just to keep from being blown over during gusts.

I took the afternoon off yesterday, supposed to be the best weather so far this year. Hit hole 4 and it just HIT. Same situation, gusting at least 40. I find some of the crazier conditions to be fun. This was only fun in the "this is just too messed up to be playing" sort of way. Hitting 4 hybrid on a 150 yd par 3.
