Please give me a little bit of a break this is my first shot at hosting a video of my swing.

I am hitting a 7 Iron. I had my first lesson in 15 years last Thursday. Been working hard ever since! I will post a few more as I produce them.

If you see something that can help me let me know. Thanks all in advance!

youre lifting your arms/hands vertically too much, i think the initial movement bringing the club back is ok, but then you lift the arms and hands and end up with them too vertical. your left arm should be more in line with the angle of your shoulders at the top of the backswing, from the direction that this vid is taken. this will help you swing more around your body, and not back and up, which is pretty much wasted movement which leads to an over the top move and inconsistency.

I agree with Colin... took upright on the backswing. I can clearly see your right shoulder, which should be blocked by your left arm with a good swing plane. I'd work more on rotating the shoulders on the takeaway and not so much your arms. Also, the clubface looks open at the top of the backswing which can lead to inconsistent ball striking (i.e a fade or push).

The footwork could use some work, it looks like you are slipping. That could be because you are wearing sneakers though.

Thanks all. That is what I was pretty much seeing too. That is why I started a set of lessons. I am actually improved from the day before the first one a few days ago. I just started video taping my swing and knew pretty much what I was doing but not how to fix it per say.

I am just getting back to golf after basically a 12 year break. But working hard to improve. My goal is to get to a single digit by the end of Summer. Was a 10 prior now at a 16. But with the late evenings now I can practice pretty much daily.

Again thank you!!!!

I will update this with I hope videos that show improvement. Maybe my video taking will improve too! LOLOL

Simple fix here, you just want to swing as flat as possible. Think baseball bat, not javelin. Take practice swings with a club like a baseball bat, going around your body, not up. Put a glove under your right arm and swing without it falling out.

The arms should form a right triangle at the back of the swing: I actually suffer a lot from the swing getting too steep because my shoulders are literally too wide to swing around, and I'm too heavy right now to help that much. I've never been able to reach around my body, even when I was in shape. It is actually painful for me to touch my right shoulder with my left palm. When golf instructors have tried to "pose" me in the right position, they are amazed that I don't actually bend that far. Because I can't change that, I have to make some changes to my swing to compensate. If you have trouble going around, you might want to take note. All I did was shorten my swing drastically. I used to swing well past parallel. I throttled it back finally to parallel. Then, I went to just shy, maybe 2 o'clock. I have recently started only coming back to vertical, 12 o'clock. The shorter swing makes it much easier to keep the club on plane. So, if you have trouble getting shallower, try that out.

Flat is fine, but with steep shoulders.

Thanks again! Yeah I like the analogy of the baseball bat swing. I need to exaggerate it to get to where I need to be. I have also been trying to shorten my swing. I pretty much go beyond parallel on most swings. The video has been great. Sometimes I tell myself swing short. Then I see the video and I am over parallel. I wish I had a big mirror to practice with too.

I am really trying to perfect my swing. If it takes breaking down the old one completely I am going to do it. My teacher on the first lesson worked on grip, ball position, (things I have fought getting right since my return) and cocking the wrist on take away which has helped set my right arm and get the club head on plane. Today I am going to work on flattening out the swing plane on takeaway. Turning with the shoulders at the start. Wish me luck. It might get ugly out there! LOLOL But worth it in the end.

This has been a great golf weekend. Lesson Thursday night, then hit about 130 balls after lesson, Friday had the day off so 160 balls in the morning and 18 holes on the course after a break for lunch (by myself so I got a nice practice round in) yesterday 160 balls and putted for an hour in the morning and 80 in the afternoon, today (Easter) about to go hit 160 balls, then off to the Elks Lodge for Easter Brunch. Maybe get time to hit the range after or go for some wedge practice.

Anyway I am off to range. For those of you that observe it Happy Easter Sunday to you!

Flat is fine, but with steep shoulders.

Define steep shoulders... You mean the left shoulder turns down and the body rotates like a cardan joint, or something else? Are you thinking along the lines of that, cause his shoulders seemed to turn on a steep enough plane that I wouldn't probably think that they would get too flat, or do you think it is possible? I can't really tell from the way his shoulders are shaped, I can't trace where they should turn to.

I know that paragraph didn't make much sense, but I can't put into words very well what I'm trying to ask, hopefully you can garner a point from it.

I mean his left shoulder turns down and rotates on a circle - perpendicular to his spine between his shoulder blades, and not at all like a cardan joint.

Shoulder steepness is measured at the top.

http://thesandtrap.com/forum/threads...ng-in-a-Circle A and C are flat, B is closer to proper. Flat arms, because that requires a deeper hand path, with a steeper shoulder turn. Tiger's swing would look a lot more one-plane if he didn't bend the plane angles of his driver swing. His iron swing looks more one-plane than his drivers, and more so the shorter the club gets... (it really can't ever be one plane so long as he continues to shove his hands away like he does).

I meant the whole body turns as a cardan joint, the hips and shoulders both turn, but the hips turn on a flat plane, and the shoulders on a steep plane. Two peices turn on different angles.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.

    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
