Anyone have any tips for deep greenside rough? I was 2-3 feet off the fringe, in uncut rough. Grass was as high as the top of my ball. I go to chip it on with a mid iron and the rough took all my club and it went a couple feet just barely getting on. Wasted shot!

Your 56 and 60 will cut through the grass a lot more than the mid-iron will. You can take a big swing with the 60 and, unless you blade it, it's not going too far. Depending on how it's sitting in the grass, you could also play it similar to a sand shot. It will roll out a bit, but that's probably what you want: I doubt you're short sided and playing to a tour-cut pin. Practice this shot somewhere before taking it to the course so that you will know what it does: it's a scary shot the first few times, but after that, it isn't that tough. Plus, I find it fun to be able to make a big swing and not send the ball far when I'm not supposed to send it far: I have this smile on my face after pulling off the shot. I tell myself "yep, I'm that good!"

+1 great advice. What shindig described is my favorite trouble shot. Just think sand and hit it. It takes courage. Again practice around the green chipping. All sorts of situations and lies. The varied conditions is will enhance you imagination and confidence in envisioning and executing a creative shot.

I view this challenging shots not as trouble but as an opportunity. Pull it off and it becomes the highlight of the round.

Most of us do not have the opportunity to practice in tall grass around the green, so you are fortunate. When ever I practice chipping and near the end of my practice, I will find a tall area of grass and practice hitting out to get the feel of what type swing I need to get out and how much carry the ball has. It different and the next level in the short game, since it requires acceleration with an open club face similar to a flop shot or bunker shot, its fun once you practice this shot and become confident with the results. We see the pro's hit this shot so often that they make it look easy, and with some practice its does become easier to pull off. I have not had to hit this shot during a round but look forward to the chance to try to judge the distance out of the heavy rough to the pin.

Depends on the distance and lie, but I'd use my 58º wedge, hitting a firm chip and chopping it out, or, if I can get under it, flop it up.

if it's really thick as you're saying...played bethpage black a year ago and had to use as a caddie told me, the hammer. it's like a chip shot where you hit behind the ball and stop the club, as sometimes in the really thick stuff it's really really tough to accelerate through it. i have used this maybe once in a very very blue moon, more often than not as most ppl say, practice variety and using a sand shot works best
