I may have posted this last year, but it just happened again. I thought some of you guys might get a kick out of it.

THE big sport in my house is motorcycle racing. The wife and I both compete (it's how we met).

Every year one of our racing buddies gets a brand new bike. Over the winter he sets up the sale of his old machine and then delivers it at either our first race or a club practice. At the same time he arranges for a dealer to show up at the same place with a brand new bike that he can cart home in its place. He probably adds between 2 and 4 grand each year to make up the difference (racing equipment depreciates faster than machines you don't thrash to hell every time you go out).

A couple of years ago I asked if his wife minded him coming home every year with a brand new bike.

" As long as I bring home the same color " he said, " she never notices ."

Can't get away with that with my own wife, alas. She's got three bikes of her own, and notices if I even change a clutch lever.

But if I ever get a new driver, I'm putting my old head cover on it....

My new Sun Mountain is red and black. It's hanging where the POS red and black Wilson Staff bag was 2 weeks ago. If she noticed, she didn't say anything, so win win. I picked up a no-name black and silver driver cover so she doesn't know about the G10 either.

It just makes me chuckle hearing about how some guys actually hide things they buy from their wives/gf's.

What the hell for? Buy what you want.

Before you leave the house, simply say, "honey, I'm going out and buying some golf equipment and whatever else I may want to buy"

Im actually supprised how many of my friends are in the same boat. When I mey my fiance she said "I;ll never complain about how much you golf " To finish that, she never minds when a club shaped box is on the front door either :). My last 2 weeks off I played every day 27 and 36 holes a few of them and she just asked me to text her on the 17 tee so she could come haver a beer at the clubhouse after. Im truely a lucky man!!

Time at the course can be another example. I REALLY get a kick out of some guys complaining and/or talking about wanting a better Dish/cable package so they can either get the golf channel or more sports, etc etc. And they don't get what they want because their wife/gf said NO. hahahahha. I laugh everytime I read that kind of stuff. And I see it more than I would think. "hummmm, I really want to get the golf channel, but the wife won't let us get the better package that costs another 10 bucks a month." Hey buddy. You left your balls hanging in the garage. While you're trying to find them, stay out there and sleep w/ the dog. Some of the guys that seriously say that, can't be serious, can they? Are some guys really like that? Do they think of themselves as men?

Yeah, some guys have learned to love and respect the opinions of their wives. What a shame. Some guys are convinced that the $10 a month would be better spent in their kid's college fund or paying off their mortgage just a little bit faster, or whatever.

I largely get to do what I want, but I don't do it without checking with my wife. She's a partner. We don't have separate bank accounts. And we'll probably be married longer than most guys who have the lousy attitude you've displayed.

...so you had a last gf when? I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have the balls to say that to a gf if you had one. If you did she's either not all there or quite frankly deserves a little more. Comon, we all hide stuff from our significant others but as i've said to my gf, "will it break the bank? will it cause us to miss a bill? no? then it's fine"...same goes for me btw it's about compromise...if i get new clubs, i take her on vacation...

My wife doesn't want to be involved with every aspect of my life. I think she pretends I'm off doing interesting manly things rather than hitting another bucket of balls from a bunker surrounded by other golf nerds getting ready for another season.

I will...when I'm married ;) as for now, my gf doesn't have to know about everything I buy since our finances aren't intermingled...so yes, I shall indeed speak for myself and possibly those who are still single and not married. Didn't mean to ruffle feathers

This is how I go about it. If I want to play a really expensive course ($100+) then I usually take her to somewhere nice for dinner. Its not like she is going to say no to me playing, but I know it bothers her that I'm spending that much money. I make about 60% money than my GF, but that doesnt mean that I spend 60% more on myself.
