I hit my 60.4 great out of sand. I have an eye2 56 but I could hit that or my PW without much difference they go the same for me with a full swing. Maybe because my irons are 20+ years old.

I have no problem hitting my 60.10 wedge but I've really put a lot of time and practice into using that particular club.

I think what people are pointing at is that most high handicappers will hit the ground behind the ball because they don't transfer their weight back to the left (for a righty) properly and they will most likely blade it 45% (and the bounce can actually make things worse if the lie is hard enough) or go right underneath the ball 40% of the time as this is not a very forgiving club loft. It can become a great ally if you work at it, but "out-of-the-box" it's something that will frustrate, more than help, the high handicap player.

I picked up my first 60* wedge due to the bounce related limitations of an opening up my SW too much (this was ~ 20 years ago). After buying that lob wedge, I went from a 15 to a 10 in ~ 3-weeks. But . . . I got a LW because of my own game, not because somebody told me it was necessary to fill out the set.

I did the same thing last summer, my suggestion is start with replacing your irons, then driver then wedges then so on and so on, but make sure you, go out and test everything before you buy it,  do some research on what would be best for your game

You ll become a better wedge player by skipping on the 60* and playing a 54* or 56* SW.  That club can be closed and opened up for many shots (including the shots you can do with a 60*)

Yea, I don't think a 60 would be the best chioce for a wedge. Alot of people on here recommend one, sure. But, their reasoning behind it is "I hit good with mine". For a wedge go with a 54* or a 56* with about 10-12* bounce and a c-grind sole.

And what makes you say that? Many of the shots you can play with a 58/60 are much harder to play than with a 60*.

I have a 54 as well. What club do I use if I have a 10 foot bank in front of me in a bunker? I know I can get the 58 over the bank while a 54 will need to climb 2/3 feet higher to get up.

Are you a better wedge player when you can play more shots with one club? Sure, but those shots you can gain will be lost in a situation similar to what I just described as you'll have to chip sideways and try to get up and down from there.

To the OP, avoiding a 60* until you are a solid wedge player is a better idea is to play a wedge with less loft.
