Go get lessons! Seriously, I was hitting my 6 iron 150 yards last year if I was lucky and after my lessons I'm now hitting my 8 iron 150 consistently. Thats not long by any means but at least I'm making good contact and getting consistent yardage. Lessons from the right teacher helps a lot!

If that's the right distance,

, then that is actually pretty far. I'm pretty sure it's above the average distance of a 7 or 6 iron for your handicap. I'll be stalking you to make sure your handicap keeps dropping with those distances To Wildcorndog, Flipmode was right. You should go see someone who knows a good deal about golf to try and fix the problem. I'm not saying to pay for lessons, but for now try and find out what the problem is from someone who can actually see your swing. Once you get a little better then I suggest going to get some lessons to make them worthwhile.

If that's the right distance,

Sweet! That gives me a little more motivation to get my handicap down, LOL! Im pretty sure its the right distance unless my range finder is lying to me.

I must say this is the first year that I think I can get my handicap down to the 10-11 range or even better because of my ball striking. Its always been one of my weaknesses. Wish me luck Corndog, out of curiosity, how long have you been playing?

i can only hit my PW about 65yds!!! its short and to the right/slice! i can hit a 7i 100yds!

I noticed you're in BR. See this

link . Also, I've heard good things about Rob Noel in Abita Springs. A cheaper alternative (as in free) is to post some swing vids here. There are lots of knowledgeable people here willing to help and should get you started on the right path. It sounds like hitting the ball solidly, in the sweet spot will likely do a lot for you. Also, what equipment are you using?

Go take lessons. Not just one, but over a period of time. Your swing speed may be low, but either way, you are not hitting the ball properly. What you should start working on is impossible to tell without a video.

Doesn't what clubs and shafts he's using factor into this as well? I know my Ram Lasers from the 1980's are shorter distanced than my newer TourEdge graphite shafted clubs, apples to apples and all that.

Clubs is a factor, but a 100 yard 7i is most likely not the fault of the clubs. Could easily be figured out by having someone else test your clubs.

ive posted a video on here. iv been playing for 2 years i just recently started hitting weak shots after the winter off season... i was hitting them decent in the fall the the spring came around and i started shanking! So i decided to stand further from the ball and i quit shanking now im haveing distance problems soooooo...... i got lessons and he told me to start swinging with my big muscles whatever the *&^% that means...

Looks to me like you hit every one of those fat. Your setup is good enough. Your swing tempo is decent. You come over the top and cast but that isn't why you only hit a 7 iron 100 yards...it's also not because you don't have enough swing speed...you only hit a 7 iron 100 yards because you're hitting behind the ball.

Same here.

To OP: If you hit the ball solid you can easily carry 150 with your 7 iron. I swing over the top and cast just like you and carry about 150 with the 7 iron. Just concentrate on making solid contact.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
    • Day 126 12-16 Back swing and rotation work today. Didn't hit any balls. Focusing on rotating and getting to lead side.
