My current Cobra has a reg shaft and I get 220 yards carry but 0 roll, when it lands in the rough the pitch mark is ahead of the ball.

I was trying out my friends old G2 driver and it's got a stiff shaft.
I was getting 200-210 carry but a lot more roll.

here's my problem/s
1. I can't hit the G2 off the deck as consistantly as my Cobra so that rules out going for the long par 5's in two.

2. the G2 doesn't fly as high compared to the cobra so trying to cut doglegs is a lot more difficult.

do the pro's outweigh the cons?

I can't get the cobra re-shafted right now because my local shop wants 70 euro (90-100 dollars) and I'm not paying that much, I could nearly get a new L5V.

If you get more roll and distance with the G2, you could be within distance for a 3 wood into the par 5. Still, as a handicap 14, should you prioritize clubs you hit par 5s in two with? I would not say so.
I don't see why cutting doglegs should be any different. The amount of side spin is dictated by the angle of the club head relative to the swing path. You can draw and fade regardless of height, but you might have to work a bit with the G2.

If you are looking for a new driver, you might as well go to a pro store and try different ones. Just because you got a bit more roll (lower ball flight or less spin) with the G2 doesn't mean it's the right one for you.

I can't hit my 3 wood for some reason (I know, I know hitting a 3 wood should be easier than hitting a driver off the fairway but for me it isn't)

For cutting doglegs the trees are pretty tall and there's a long way for the ball to carry if I want to cut it properly. When I get cash for new clubs I'll think about a new driver, not sure at the moment.

Not exactly sure what you're asking, but if you're asking whether to go with 2 drivers... certainly it's not a normal thing to do, but do remember that there's no right or wrong in this game. If it works for you, you should be doing it. A 3W is "supposed" to be easier to hit, certainly off the deck, than a driver. But at the end of the day, it's the shot and not the club that counts for your score, so if the long club off the turf that you hit the best happens to have a "D" on the label, then use that one.

BUT, you might want to go try some other 3W and see if maybe you've just got a poor choice of 3W for your swing.

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW

I was also wondering what driver I should choose if I'm going to.

I'll have a look at other woods, I don't have a great one at the moment.

PGA tour veteran Lee Trevino once carried two drivers in the Masters. Lee won six majors, but never played well in the Masters. Lee lived and died by the fade, and found you needed to draw the ball frequently to contend at Augusta. One year at Augusta, he carried two drivers - one with a hook face for when he needed right-to-left action.

If you feel two drivers would help your game, give it a try.

Phil hasn't won 6 majors.

They have both done it. I'm still not sure why Phil, the guy who everyone says has more golf talent than everyone else in the world, can't adjust his swing enough to hit a draw or a fade. So he took one of his 20 wedges out of the bag and added a driver.

Oops haha well I've only heard of Phil doing it. I tried to look up Trevino doing it on google but couldn't find anything (search lasted a whole 43 seconds). I thought maybe WUTiger was talking about Trevino's background, but Phil's performance with the 2 drivers.

What courses are you playing where the Par 5's are reachable after drives of 220 yards?

With that in mind... I've had two drivers in my bag before. Actually, last season... I played the last five rounds of the season with two drivers. I had a new Cleveland HiBORE XLS and an old TaylorMade R540. I kept the R540 in the bag incase there was a left-to-right hole because I hadn't figured out how to fade the ball with the HiBORE. (Still can't... at least not purposely).

If you're comfortable with having both drivers in the bag... go for it. As long as you're within the legal limit for number of clubs... you could carry all drivers. It's up to YOU how to configure your bag.

I just remembered I actually caddied for a guy in a member guest once who played two drivers, an '07 Burner and a Burner Draw. He rarely used the draw version though because he already hit a draw.

Sorry, wasn't aware Phil had done this.

The Lee Trevino piece was in one of the golf magazines like years and years ago. I had a clip of it tucked away in a Master's folder, but the folder evaporated during a household move about 15 years ago. BTW, if Rocco Mediate ends up in another U.S. Open playoff, maybe we should twitter him and suggest he put an open-faced second driver in his bag for the finale.

9th hole is 470 yards off a elevated tee.

I'd hit a 250 yard maybe better shot and then hit a low driver again that rolls along the fairway up to the hole. ok thanks for the comments. Also didn't phil have 2 drivers because he had one monster 7.5* for open holes and then a 9.5* for tighter fairways.

Because the only draw he can hit with that swing is a pull-draw, and those aren't very reliable. Phil has a hard time swinging out at the ball. He comes over the top of virtually everything, particularly the longer clubs.

So it's a problem with his swing. I don't really think he has the amazing talent everyone thinks he has (he's a great golfer, but I don't think he has the talent of a guy like Tiger), and I think this just proves it.

On the contrary - as I've said before, Phil has more talent than almost anybody. The proof is that he wins as often as he does with THAT swing...

If you're comparing 220 carry (no roll) and 200 with roll, I suspect you're talking about 220 versus 225 at best. Is 220 your average drive or your "stock" distance?

Cutting corners over trees and reaching par 5s in two is fine for a long ball hitter who averages 220 off the tee by swinging easier and laying up (using irons off the tee), but if you have to swing outta your shoes every time to get that yardage, well, you might want to consider adding a good rescue club.

220 would be a stock distance. If I swing hard I'll get a little more but it's not worth it. I think my next purchase will be a good hybrid/4 wood.
