Note for the backswing hip turn. The trigger for the downswing hip transition might feel like I just increase pressure in the lead foot. Don’t feel the hips gain extra turn just for the sake of using that momentum to turn forward. When practicing my backswing I can feel myself want to gain extra turn to trigger the downswing turn.

Yay range session.

So, not as much success as I want. Hey, I got a bit of success, or until I get corrected 😁.

The process was.

1. Focus on posture at set up. Hips less back, weight more in center of feet. Just adding this in as something easy to do.

2. Make a backswing not letting my hips gain a ton of turn. Feels like I brace  the turn against my left leg, I get a bit of stretch or resistance in my inner left thigh.

3. Finish backswing earlier, bit easier with less hip turn. In the video below, the carry on took the club to a good posit at A4, not crazy long.

4. Trying to bring hands a down to my right pocket.

The major difficulty is 100% getting my hands down in the right way. They just like to pause at A4 and get carried out with the turn.

I thought I work on a bit of backswing length stuff to get more of a feel for it. Restricting hip turn, and feeling the swing stop a tad shorter. Not to bad. Disregard downswing stuff, I had zero thought on it.

I did work on the downswing stuff a bit earlier. It is a bit tricky for me right now. Still much more work to do.

Tried slowing things down and piecing things out for the downswing piece. I would take the club to A4, pause everything, drop the arms down and then start turning. The pause felt like a solid second or two of pause.

Here is one more ramped up not feeling much of a pause. I can see the hands starting to drop down from A4, but then gets carried out to much. Just got to do it more.

On a side note, doing this works the crap out of my forearm and shoulder muscles of my right arm. I may need to supplement this with some left arm exercises later 😛

Some notes….

For timing of the hands down stuff, slowing the hands and club into A4. Like at A3 the hands are moving slowly and coming to a slow stop at A4. It seems to help give me time to trigger the right arm down.

Fast early, backswing is "done" by A2.5.

DTL Drill

DTL 7 Iron - I just had to get a few swings in where I don't focus on the transition stuff. This was more focusing extending the left leg much sooner in the golf swing. Really pushing off with the left foot. It feels like I start pushing off like at A3

Ok, so in review. I just got to do this slower and figure out a feel that works. Not sure if I need to pause at the top, like pause the body turn as much as possible. Because once I trigger, I have no time to feel anything.

Current swing thoughts while playing.

Swing to A3, stop turning when left shoulder reaches chin.

Feel a pause where the body feels coiled up, then swing through.

GEARS session today up in Erie.

Updated Priorities.

1. Keep swing shorter, and less bend in right elbow at end of backswing (sub 90 degrees). Hands feel higher, club feels pointing up to the sky more. Feeling like my right palm is pushing away from my head, and resisting the club at A3-A4

Right Elbow.jpeg

2. How I use my hips in the backswing. I need to slide to my right side, and then use more internal rotation of the right hip to send the hip back and up. This keeps the right knee facing forward more, instead of having it rotate out. I also need to pause at the top of the swing. This is to help get a better syncing of my sight shift and turning for the downswing.

Not really a "pause" just "stay right longer." You're still moving the whole time, and it stops you from shifting forward early, slowing down, then having to "re-start" the forward shifting.

New routine for the course.

Take a practice swing for backswing length. Come down to ball how I want to present the clubface. Make swing matching backswing length and then presenting the club face to hit the target line I want. visualize hitting the ball at an alignment stick. When I focus on target line I hit some really good shots.
