If I can just get the club from carrying on that far. It's closer to being where I want it, but it's like a transition timing thing.

It's the best I've seen it "in the wild" (i.e. not when working with me that day).

Consider the rates at which something else happens, like the right arm bends or the wrists. If they don't do "something" early, they'll do "a lot" late. You may find that you react well with an early wrist set or something like that, so long as it moves the sweet spot relatively on-plane. Or an earlier wrist hinge.

Or… just man up (I'm joking, nothing to do with manliness, and I'm half talking to myself) and make your arms move what feels like three inches only, even though it feels like half a swing, and go from there. You'll be surprised every time how "easy" the speed is, how "easy" the contact is, and then a week later, you'll go right back to just swinging way too long again, like a total dumbass.

Okay, I was talking to myself there. 😄

Some Video…

Current 6-iron

No arm movement feel.

Current Driver

Driver swing that feel like they are all turn. Maybe took it a bit to far in the 2nd video. Anything that isn’t this feel the club just keep traveling on further than I want.

Some notes for pitching….
Soft arms, more pivot, keep hands out of it a bit. Can get to handsy.

Can you put something over/behind your trail shoulder?

6-iron - Current

6-Iron
1) Slower backswing to feel the club slowing down at A3-A4
*On a side note, somehow the swing path started to get closer to the heel? I had to start setting up with the ball more off the toe to hit center of club face. Like crazy development. My miss use to be more on the toe side of the club,

Driver with the backswing aid set up.
*This made it VERY hard to time up my swing. I use the carry on, and hinge of my wrist to time the downswing. So, I kept hitting a lot of low pull to straight cuts.

Slow-Mo TEE!!

OK, I am going to say... F*** You golf swing 😛 Just stop the the swing at A4. How the hell did the club get there with out me thinking about anything. Sigh!!

Like WTF!!! I give up, joking. I almost just started laughing at the range.

Played in a tournament today.

Off the Tee - B-

All but three drives where in play with an iron shot for a GIR. Two drives went OB, and one went into a lateral hazard.

Approach Shots - C-

Hit very little GIR. I just kept pulling full iron shots left. If I got near the green in two on a par 5 I would duff or thin a pitch.

Short Game - F

lots of 2nd pitch or chip shots needed.

Putting - D-

Just lag putting struggles. Lots of three putting.

Lol, the red painted line says otherwise. It went from OB to lateral hazard. Got lucky.

Re-read what you wrote, and what I said. 🙂

And then maybe this.

I was just making a joke, but… I guarantee your ball didn't end up in a lateral hazard.

DUDE!  You literally created the perfect swing aid for yourself!  I bet you improve a ton with that aid stopping your backswing!

  • 2 weeks later...

Went up to Erie yesterday for a wedge fitting and some swing work.

Full Swing
1. Shorter Backswing. Turn carries arms back. Feel backswing ends when has are furthest away from target (shoulder height).
2. Sit/squat down in transition and then straighten left as left hip goes back.

Full Swing is in a really good spot 🙂

Pitching
1. Keep head down longer
2. Pivot around left knee, don't let left knee sag/flex.

The SMS wedges? How did you like them? We’re they noticeably different than the Classics?

And in pitching:

  • backswing is wider
  • let everything "collect" or "gather" before you start the downswing

I like them, but I prefer if they looked a tad less chunky. It’s mostly to do with how they machine the wedges. They performed good on the launch monitor.

Shorter Swing Feel...

Screen Shot 2021-06-01 at 1.27.15 PM.png

More Squat/Sit Feel.. It doesn't look like much, but the feel is there for me.

Screen Shot 2021-06-01 at 1.27.28 PM.png\

Just better impact position... This will help with consistently, I think I was a bit too close to vertical and my angle of attack struggled. During the wedge fitting, angle of attack was not that consistent for me. Though, I wonder if the machine was reading things strongly.

The biggest visual can be seen here. Way more stable.

Played in a scramble today. Overall the swing was good. Got tired out on the final few holes. got to keep the swing shorter. I got to squat better.

I did hit the best 7 iron ever. Didn’t go all out. Contact just felt solid. Carried it 187.

Just to expand on the feel. The swings felt more tilt back, head dip back. So, I wasn't getting my weight forward with the squat move, to allow me to turn and extend the left knee. I was more just extending and falling back.

This sort of thing happens more in my distance wedges where I look up too soon, and I end up fatting the shot.

    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
    • Very much so. I think the intimidation factor that a lot of people feel playing against someone who's actually very good is significant. I know that Winged Foot pride themselves on the strength of the club. I think they have something like 40-50 players who are plus something. Club championships there are pretty competitive. Can't imagine Oakmont isn't similar. The more I think about this, the more likely it seems that this club is legit. Winning also breeds confidence and I'm sure the other clubs when they play this one are expecting to lose - that can easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
    • Ah ok I misunderstood. But you did bring to light an oversight on my part.
