. . . LPGA tour pros could beat

Fixed that one part. Getting your arse kicked by a female is humbling, amazing, awe inspiring, and beautiful all at the same time. If more good female athletes played golf (rather than soccer, lacrosse, rugby, volleyball, hockey, tennis, basketball, volleyball, ran track, did gymnastics, taught yoga, ran marathons, participated in triathlons, snowboarding, skiing, tae kwon doe, MMA, etc) there would be more of them watching it on TV.

The truth is, women who played golf in the 90s are playing other sports or gaming. The golden age of women's golf is over, but I'm still gonna expose my daughter to the game every chance I get.

Thats why they are called pros!!! Would you as a non-lawyer go up against some guy in court who gets paid +1 Mio a year for doing his job? I doubt it, you would hire somebody to level the playing field.
I assume your employer expects you to beat out the a good part of the competition to make money for your company - if you do it well you get paid well - and then you are a good professional just as these LPGA players are, but that doesnt mean that some random dude feels the urge to challenge you. Thats why we are amateurs in the true meaning of the word.

I like the LPGA because it's golf I can aspire to. I visit the Safeway Classic in Portland every year, and I see shots I can hit, too. Maybe two or three times a round, but I can hit 'em. The male professionals are just doing something else.

Last year when I went to the tournament I spent the day absorbing their grace and rhythm and the next day shot a 78 (my annual sub-80 round) just riding on the feeling.

Yes, the clothing that some of them wear is (a) appalling or (b) worthy of a What Not to Wear intervention, and having their caddy line them up is . . . well, I won't go there, but if I can do it (and I can), so can the best female players in the world.

But I like the LPGA. Right now the best part is that if you followed it exclusively you wouldn't have to read any stories about Tiger Woods having a swing coach or not having a swing coach or picking his nose on the 14th tee.

Which is another reason it won't ever be like the PGA. People don't watch the PGA to see guys in some great looking trousers or a form fitting shirt. We watch it to see the ability/skills they show swinging a golf club and making that ball do amazing things. The LPGA seems to be more of a show of the bodies and outfits. Don't get me wrong... I wish I could make shots like they do, but I'm basing my opinion from the responses I've read here. I've very seldom sat and watched more than a couple of holes on an LPGA.

A lot of people tuned into the Memorial this weekend just to see what Ricky Barnes and Ricky Fowler were wearing. Did you see the group Fowler was in on Saturday - three fashionistas right there. Anyone who caught Sunday's action may have seen the juxtaposition of the eventual champion (black on black) and the runner up. I bet the golf shops will selling a lot of clothing to casual fans this week. Strange but true.

Did any of you watched the ShopRite Classic?

They are playing on a 6150y course with a 70.7 USGA rating. Its pretty much completly flat, the fairways look WIDE, the rough harmless - imo thats just the typical resort course a weekend golfer would love to play and score well, cuz nothing really can go wrong there.

Why would the LPGA even consider setting up a tournament there? Are they so desperate? Cant they find courses that have a bit more challenge in them (aka entertainment for the viewers)? No wonder people think the LPGA is a joke......

The PGA Tour plays plenty of easy courses - the equivalent for them, I guess, would be some of the under-7000 yard courses. Some courses will pay the TOUR to show up there and will be a sponsor on the event. I don't remember Trump International looking all that scary, although it's a beast for yardage (over 7500). And Wailaie CC is just a hair over 7000 yards. TPC River Highlands is 6800 and change. And the rough/greens setup for the Hope is clearly with the amateurs in mind.

I'm not saying these courses paid the TOUR to play there; I don't know one way or the other for those two. I suspect Trump International does. I think Kapalua does, too, but that's not an easy course. Anyway, there are some easy courses on the PGA Tour. And there's entertainment to be had too: I like it when there's an occasional tournament where a round of even par will completely hose a player's chances.

I was thinking that.

Let's not forget, I am sure she will have opportunities going forward to make money. If she is a half way decent speaker she can pull in some nice money as a motivational speaker of some kind. I have hired at least two women athletes to speak at conferences for my company. You would not know of their names in general. (one a former US Olympian the other climbed Mount Everest) But they made $7,500 to $12,000 just to do a 1 hour speech. Next week we are hiring a former MLB pitcher and paying him $15,000. We are his second apperance that day.

After watching the golf channel i found out that lorena ochoa is going to retire and it said her earnings were only 14.3 million. Phil Mickelson made 7.6 million in his masters win alone plus his sponsors money.

Geez I wish I could make 14.3 MILL playing GOLF! Wait, I bet you wouldnt be saying its a joke if your wife pulled in 14.3 MILL.

And by the way Phil made about 1.2 million. The number your reffering to is the total purse money at the Masters.

Everytime i read one of those LPGA threads somebody has to come up with the idea, that pro lady golfers would kick our amateurs ass - and gets really excited about it - seems like some of you really enjoy this idea ...... but this comparision just doesnt fly - whatever your job is - if you are any good at it - you wouldnt go up against some amateur "kicking her/his ass" and brag about it, would you?

No, there wouldnt - watching sports is a guys habit, or do you know any event of the above that attracts female viewers in any comparable way than its male counterpart sports?

It's all about butts in the seats or along the ropes. The PGA doesn't have the bigger payoffs because its played by guys. The ticket sales and the TV viewers making sponsors wanting to buy air time and tournament sponsors wanting to sell image to the spectators is what determines the pay days. The LPGA is fun to watch but it is not the dramatic show that is the PGA. Tiger and Phil et al. take chances and make more spectacular shots than the middle of the fairway and green LPGA. It's just a better show. The LPGA should forget the short shorts and present the image of a professional that you would want to come around the counter and help you with a set of clubs, putter, driver. Look like professionals instead of girls on holiday in Vegas. Kelly Stenzel should be in charge of the dress code for the LPGA. She is a professional and looks like a professional.

Have you ever played a round of golf with a woman who can hit 270 yard drives, hit long irons, flop shots and can drain putts? Maybe the rush I've playing with a couple of them, was due to the fact so many of them can't hit the ball 100 yards. Watching a woman who's above average looking who excels at sports - any sport - is hot. Allow me to rephrase that last bit. Women (and men) would be more likely to watch a sport on television that they actually play than a sport they don't play. People of either gender would also be more likely to attend a golf tournament if they played the game. I'd say that logic is pretty straightforward. There's only one person implying the number of females watching sports on TV would ever rival the number of men watching sports on TV. Psst . . . it's you .

    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
    • Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.

    • Well the first advice I would give is to look at your swing. If you are swing out to in, it may be difficult to fix your misses with club adjustments. They would only be a bandaid. I use midsize grips because I have long fingers and I feel I have more control with them. I also have tinkered with shaft length and swing weight. But I know when I miss it’s because my swing was off.
