what "device" is everyone talking about here?  Is this swing extender or the right angle 2 (RA2).  I didn't see a video on the first page of this topic, not sure if it was removed (I am using chrome)

https://amzn.to/2U7ctU5 - $20

https://www.swingextender.com - $29.95 + shipping

The Swing Extender is a bit less expensive and does its job well.

This is fantastic. As much trouble as I know I have been having with my left arm (I am left handed, so the right arm in this video), it had not occurred to me to keep it from bending beyond 90 degrees at the top of my back swing. That coil and feeling of power being built up at the top of the swing is useless if it does not come down correctly and on plane. Recently I had been trying to drive my left elbow into my side on my downswing because too often do I get 'armsy' on my downswing.  Bending it beyond 90 degrees, though, could be the root of my inconsistencies of late (hittin thins, fat shots, duffs), and driving into my rib cage probably worsened things after all 😅.

Oh ya can't help but laugh at this stupid effing game sometimes. Looking forward to putting this theory to work today at the range - perhaps purchasing a swing extender as well. Thanks for posting this; probably saved me a lot of grief and curse words !

I have recently been using the “straight right arm” backswing and my backswing is much much shorter.
I can also feel the wrists lagging when I start going forward.

overall more power and accuracy.

my issue is when I go back sometimes I get too “high” and not “around” with my BS. May be a personal issue, but high = hooking it left...around = small baby draw.

I also use the RightAngle2 to practice. Set it to 45 degrees per Butch Harmon and works wonders in a few sessions.

free bump for this awesome thread.

HI,

Could anyone tell me in which direction apply Extensor Action from address?

Many on YouTube say along the shaft but The Golfing Machine Book says bellow the plane  meaning (vertically down)

I need clarity to this piece of the puzlet. Thank

Well, you don't really apply extensor action super early in the backswing. It's more of a "halfway to all the way back" feeling.

Actually, it's not possible to apply it from address, because:

"Extensor action is exclusively the steady effort to straighten the bent Right Arm. This stretches but does move the Left Arm and produces a structural rigidity that is a strong deterrent to collapse under the stresses of Acceleration and Impact."

That's the definition. So, the trail elbow is generally pretty straight, so you can't extend it much farther.

Thanks for reviving this thread.   This is one of my priority pieces that I've been working on and it's a great read.

    • Day 316 - More swings, full backswing and full finish.
    • Day 132: did some mirror work while watching TV. Worked on backswing stuff primarily.
    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
