So im finally getting driver fitted at golf galaxy tomorow. Has anyone else done this at GG, and if so, how was it? What all do they go through? Was it worth it?

Depends on the golf galaxy some have quality people that do a great job. There are others who aren't good and just try to stick you with the most expensive driver they have in stock. It's pretty much what you'd think it would be a lot of shaft combos to see what gives you the best flight, etc.

Hi Kennay92,

I'm also considering a fitting for my driver, and maybe I'll try Golf Galaxy. I looked at their website and see that the club fitters are Maltby certified. Here's a link that explains the Maltby selection process that Golf Galaxy will use when custom fitting your driver shaft.

Please let me know how it turned out for you :)

Thanks

I went along with my friend last year when he was "fitted". They kept trying to sell him a driver even after he told them that he was only interested in finding the right shaft for his current head, driver head that is.

I had a driver fitting this past March. I spent probably 45 minutes with the guy, different combinations of this and that. At the end of the day the package he recommened was not any different (length or accuracy) then the the driver i already had, it actually was just a little shorter...the one i bought on Calloway preowned, after throwing a minor hissy fit on last years golf trip and breaking my cobra over me knee. LOL i know real mature...not one of my finer moments.

bottom line is i got lucky and bought a great club that was right for me. I still feel the 25 or 35 bucks the fitting cost me was worth it. It also gave confidence on the T that i have the right club. i say do it and have some fun with it.

I went through the driver fitting process, only because I also was looking to upgrade my shaft with a better quality one. I own a r7 425 and hit about 6 new drivers with various shafts and clubhead sizes and found that I only hit one club marginally better than my r7. I still did change the shaft in my r7 and now hit it better than those others. My point being that the fitting is successful in setting your current driver up to you without spending $400.00 or more on a new one.

My experience wasn't so good. I liked the guy that I worked with, but I don't trust their launch monitor. It gave me an average of 117mph, with several in the 123mph range, with launch around 9*. That didn't jive with what I saw on the course, and later I hit on several Trackman monitors that both came in around 110mph with a 11-12* launch which was much more consistent with what I saw on course.

Got fitted for a driver at GG in November 2008.

I was shifting from stiff to regular shafts across the board, so I went with the Big Club first.

My old driver was an 9.5* Air Zevo driver with a stiff, high launch shaft. This was the starting point on the Launch Monitor. Hit five shots, they came up with a 19* luanch angle, ball pushing or fading to right, less than 200 yds. distance.

I had told him I was interested in the Callaway Hyper X, and he suggested I try the Hyper X Tour model with a mid, rather than low kickpoint to move down launch angle. He set me up with the Hyper X Tour and similar drivers:
+ Ping G10(?) 9.5*
+ Hyper X Tour 9.5*
+ Hyper X Tour 10.5*
+ Cleveland HiBore 10.5* gold
+ Cleveland HiBore 10.5* red

The 9.5* got dropped because I hit half of them "under the radar" - low hot shots that the launch monitor couldn't pick up.

I hit five "keeper" shots per club - a couple of really bad ones got dropped out - and compared the results.

To make a long story short, the performance side was pretty much a tie between the 10.5* headed Hyper X Tour and one of the HiBores. I went with the Hyper X Tour because of feel, and easier alignment.

I also got a printout of the test data on all six clubs (Air Zevo plus new drivers) as a baseline for future selection.

Hyper X Tour worked fine once I figured out how to tee up a jumbo-headed driver (Air Zevo was only about 320 cc.) A month later I picked up an X Tour 3 wood - see sig.

Mike, the guy who worked with me, is also a PGA teaching pro, and I've since had lessons from him.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Don't trust those launch monitors, the one i had wouldn't even register. I was just that beastly it couldn't pick up the ball.. :b, nah thats just what i like to think, i came back and they said there was a bad cable hookup somewere. But i got some free information out of it, oh well.

There alright, i think the best thing to do is go to a demo day, get out on the range and really get some good feel of what you like. Maybe you can go to a fitting day and see if they have the tracman thing, were you hit balls outside and they project your trajectory, spin, speed, ect... If they just do Prolaunch, its not worth it.

I only swing what looks good and feels good........... unless the balls flies in some weird trajectory. I could give a chit what some company pimp wants to sell me. There is is a fine line between high tech swing simulators and idiocy. Most golfers that I see doing the club fitting deal are being manipulated by the so called professional who is constantly fooling around with the guys setup. As soon as the guy tees it up at his local muni......he's lost.
