Low compression balls are for slow swing speeds, and visa versa. Don't belive me... look it up!

I don't have to look it up. I've talked to engineers at Titleist, TaylorMade, Callaway, and Nike.

A firmer ball ALWAYS has more ball speed. A softer ball will often have more backspin, and that's why some of these softer balls are better for golfers with slower swing speeds - they'll hang in the air a bit longer. But pure ball speed? Always choose the firmest golf ball.

Zeph... driver spin is driver spin. If it spins a lot going straight, it will spin (curve) a lot if not hit flush. This is why balls with low driver spin are better for amatures.

That did not answer my question.

Titleist pro v are the best ball I ever hit. They last a hell a lot longer than the titleist ballata balls of the 80 and 90's. I have a bag full of them and they lasted for a dozen rounds. The ball I can not stand is Nike balls!! They are the worst balls ever, I would hit any top-flite over nike anyday. If Tiger was not payed that outragous contract from Nike he would not touch those things.

I could be wrong, but I believe that Tiger is only under an apparel contract, not equipment.

I . . . be wrong . . .

He's sure in a lot of equipment adds (like the Nike and TW irons spots that used to play every 10 minutes).

the golf store told me he doesnt even use nike irons. He has some company special make them for him and they cost like 4 grand

He uses nike clubs.

They are specially made for him by nike, I'd say they'd cost more than 4 grand for somebody to buy.

If Tiger is under an exclusive Nike equipment contract.... I guess I didn't realize the Titleist putter we get nice close-ups with for the last 12-13 years, was acturally a Nike. Hmmm

You're the only one using the "all or nothing" logic. Most players under equipment contracts use whatever putter they want. Try the search window and look up the "under the headcover" discussion.

What don't you like about the Nike balls? I have played the tour d and it was a great ball. The balls lasted me at least 18 holes. What is your beef?

I like the "check" with the ProVs.....

TP Red is a better ball though, much less spin rate off driver, equal spin rates to proV with 8 iron and wedge

I play ProV1x but probably wouldn't if lostgolfballs.com didn't exist. TP Red was a very close second for me when I did some comparisons last year and would agree that it was definitely a lower spinning ball off of the tee while maintaining enough spin off of short irons/wedges.

I stocked up on TP Reds and Blacks last year. I bought about 12 boxes that were on sale. I had to hide them from my son because he thinks my garage is his own sporting goods store.

I wish I had! I've still seen some at Golf Galaxy, but figured I'd start playing a ball that will continue to exist. Even though I could easily be picking these up on some of the used sites. I've seen a lot more TP Blacks on the shelves, but I never liked those nearly as much.

Overall, I completely agree with those who say the hype behind the pro v's and vx's have reason. No other ball ever played in the world's greatest game has compared to the amazing short game and long drives played with this ball. However, I do prefer to use juice plus 312. Just because the pro v's and vx's are a little to over priced around these parts.

thats why i always get cheap balls, doesnt matter to someone as bad as me

lol dont mean to be offending here but if you are so bad, why is your handicap 16.0? unless you are being sarcastic or something. but no need to get off topic here just wondering if you know how to calculate handicap or not.

    • Day 12: stole about 10 minutes in the garage, doing my drill with foam balls.
    • Day 116 12-6 Still working on getting to lead side. Tonight I also tried some skill work with clubface awareness.  Hit foam balls.
    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
