Guys...here is the long story short. I was a very good player, gave up the game for almost 10 years and decided to start playing again this summer.

What do you do if you can't find a putter that you like. I mean I have gone through everything in all the golf shops in my area. I just can't find anything I LOVE the looks of. I was a very good putter, but that was because I loved the looks of my putter and had confidence in it. That was a Bullseye...does not have the same feel/look now 10 years later.

I bought the Odyssey SRT 2-ball over the winter as it felt good and seem to swing nicely. Big mistake on my part. Ball comes off waaaayyyyyy too hot for my liking. So it will be going up for sale.

Any recommendations as to where to start?

I am am a huge fan of Rife putters. They are making soime of the old style abacus type putters. I also like the the TM Itsy bitsy spyder....I used to be a huge fan of odyssey putters, but I have found more consisitnecy and confidence out of rife. Good luck

I hear ya bro
i been through a few putters over the years
I recently picked up a RIFE Island Series Abaco and i really like it
I went back to a heel shafted design, but am trying a half mallet type

heres a pic of it:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

i have been struggling putting all year and was recetly fitted for this putter
the face groove technology really does work, i hardly ever hop putts now
but as you know, a putter is so personal

my suggestion, get fitted, have your fitter pick out a few that suit you and try to decide based on that
I have NEVER been a beliver in fitting until this year
I now have everything where I need it, it fits and im starting to come around and play better

good luck u your journey.......it's a tough one

What/where is Carl's? I have been to GG, Maple Hill, Golf Emporium, etc.

Thanks for all the advice. Never thought about getting fitted. They were not really doing that yet when I quit the game. Do most/all shops do putter fittings?

yep they should

takes about 20 mins, give or take fitter will watch your stroke, stance, watch a few putts and make a reccomendation (r u straight back and through, have an arc etc..) make sure its the actual pro or fitter and not the dumba$$ sales guy though

When you say that the Bullseye doesn't have the same feel/look now as 10 years ago do you mean your old putter doesn't suit you anymore or do you mean the new versions of the Bullseye are like that? If you've still got your old Bullseye I'd stick with that for now. It may just be a matter of time until you get your confidence back with it, especially if you used to putt really well with it. Otherwise your best bet might be trying to find a used putter that was the same as your old one, I'm sure there are loads floating around out there.

Agree with continuing to use your old putter if you still have it (might need to be regripped though).

One of my buddies who is a fantastic putter still uses on 25-year old P.O.S. Northwestern putter from some old starter set. Putting is just as much about psychology as it is technology...

My "A" putter is an old Wilson flanged blade about 30 years old. My "B" and "C" putters are older Pings that I picked up at pawn shops. If you feel the older putters give you more confidence, check out second hand sports stores, used bin at smaller golf stores, and especially pawn shops. You can still come across some deals at pawn shops because often you will see little used stuff there, especially classic styles from someone's garage or attic.

This is not to disparage many of the new putters milled in classic styles, if that is what you want.

What are your thoughts on Scotty Camerons? I have a newport 2 and couldn't be happier. Had i Odyssey White Ice 2, but returned it for the Scotty.

I just got a Mizuno Bettinardi putter from GolfSmith. What a fantastic putter. I've always been reluctant to spend much on a putter but after going through 3 in the past year and a half I decided to look for something a bit up the ladder. I guess they are getting rid of stock because originally priced it was $249 and is on sale for $99. Has great weighting and is a no-insert putter face. Played with it last round and was surprised how well the ball rolls with little effort.

I had the same problem a few years ago. I played the original Isopur from Ping and I liked it, but didn't love it. I found that it felt different from different distances... (the face insert reacted different with different stroke speeds). I sought out to find a putter that felt the same, all the time. At first I shyed away from insert putters but found that I really enjoyed the scotty that I have now. As far as looks, I find that the topline of the putter is what matters to me the most. I enjoy having a thicker topline. Find a face that you like and then find a style. That's what I suggest.

Thanks guys. Yes, it is my old Bullseye that is about 20 or so years old. Just does not have the same look and feel to me now 10 years later.

As far as a Scotty...I was trying to avoid dumping $300 on a putter but that might need to be the base. But I think for now I will try to play a few rounds with my Bullseye and see what happens.

I came really close to picking up a Rife last fall, but it reminded me so much of my old Sportsman forged blade (same style Nicklause used to use) that I put that one back into service occasionally. PING's newer, less expensive, models were right there too.

I read your location wrong. I thought you were in Rochester. Carls golfland is a big golf store in Bloomfiled Hills.
