That's like asking if a car with a hatchback should be driven differently than a car with four wheels. You are aware they are not mutually exclusive, right? Basically, a putter is a putter, but certain putters favor certain strokes.

Shaft placement is a complaetely different variable to face material. Face material affects feel, and the shaft position actually affects the roll of the ball minimally.
What I Play:

Pretty close Billysandy- In my opinion, your stroke determines the shaft position- a SBST stroke is more suited to a centre shafted, or face balanced putter, where as a gated(arched) stroke is suited to a heel to toe weighted putter.

You are correct in the insert only affects the feel of the putter. Kari

Ummmm, no? I have an old Nike OZ Black with a center shaft and an insert. If you are asking if there is a difference between a center shaft and a heel shaft, not really any conscious difference. There is some difference because the ball is hit closer to the shaft, but I don't think you really need to make any adjustments.
