i have no doubt he could put up 225. thats pretty decent. i might even believe 3 or 4 reps at 225. but 8 reps at 250 is a bit much to believe.

Phil rules! Tiger drools!

I pressed 225 for 13 reps and 250 for 8 reps when I was in college. 5'10" and weighed 185 at the time. Not really a big deal if you actually lift and have trainers.

But honestly, I think you're all gay, debating Phil vs Tiger body... just saying....

yup exactly I agree...but for golfers doing this type of lifting was essentially unheard of before tiger showed up. And to the guy who made the dumbbell comment, it is still considered bench press with dumbbells. "bench press" refers to the position and the motion, not whether a bar or dumbbells is being used.

I love when Phil wears those tight shirts. He's looking especially pear shaped slumped over those missed putts today

have to say he is doing well to be 1 under when everyone else is throwing up all over themselves though

That isn't even a lot, really. Not at all. I was putting up 275 in high school ar 190 pounds. Over 300 in college at 225 being 5'10 with 11% body fat and lifting over 500 off the floor. I can't hit 310+. It doesn't have much to do with strength. I SERIOUSLY doubt Dustin Johnson could put up 225 even once.

Why would you doubt that? 225 is not that much. Most high school kids in my gym can press 225 at least once. I disagree that distance doesn't have some to do with strength....if that's what you are referring to..I didn't read the entire thread. I have noticed distance gains since lifting. It is not all about strength, but I think more strength helps distance.

Why would you doubt that?

Because his tour page lists him at 6'4 190, which means he is probably 6'4 180. He also has the arms of an orangutan. I have been in the gym for a very long time and I can't remember when someone that long, lanky and skinny could put up 225. I'm not saying it isn't possible, I just don't think it's very likely. Either way it's unimportant for him as we can all agree it isn't his bodily strength that makes him a good distance guy.

#1. Watching him in person (or on TV), I have a VERY hard time believing he is under 200 pounds. He is 6'4" and very well put together...not skinny by any means, very athletically built. I played ball with lots of guys who were around 6'1" 190 and Dustin is much bigger than they were.

#2. the part about the long arms is very true. Shorter, stockier guys (or guys with shorter arms) tend to have an easier time lifting the heavier weights. Longer arms are definitely a disadvantage when it comes to throwing up weight on the bench.

i am built almost exactly like DJ. i am 6'4" 200 lbs. his arms seem to be a big longer than mine, and my arms and chest are quite a bit bigger than his. i dont doubt he could put up 225. i cant do it as many times as i used to when i was lifting a lot, but i know what you mean by longer gangly guys like DJ and me having a tougher time lifting heavier weight. the truth is we do more work for 1 rep compared to a shorter armed guy. anyways, i think DJ could do it at least once. still not sure about tiger 8 reps at 250.
