Well, I finally did it.

Yesterday I played at a local course I had never played ( par 72, 69.9 course rating, slope 120 off the black tees, 6500 yards ), so not an overly hard course. My driving was bad all day except a few, but my irons were phenomenal. My putting was a bit annoying, I had maybe 4 chances to make birdies and would leave myself an inch putt for the par every time.

Front nine I shot 40 which I was disappointed in as I had a double bogey after hitting my 3 hybrid into the water on a weird straight push trying to draw it....so I had a double and 2 bogeys and the rest pars, with a few birdie opportunities that I let by, but that was ok....

So the back 9 started with a par, bogey, bogey...I knew I could afford one more bogey for the next 6 holes, so I hit par, par, bogey, par, bogey and was pretty crushed...I was on track for 80. Final hole I drove a beautiful drive 335 ( with the wind )...the carts have GPS, and that's what it claimed it to be. I was 160 out but with the tail wind I thought I would hit a 52* PW. I hit it flush and RIGHT at the flag, but it dropped on the green 20 feet short, but my putt was uphill and had only half a foot of break left to right.

I had to make the putt for birdie to hit 79, and I did. My only birdie of the day ( only putt I made past 10 feet ). Picked the line and speed and it dropped.

Such a relief to finally break 80. I knew it would come this season, but it's satisfying to do it this early. Now I have a cushion and can work on getting to par....if I start making those 12-15 foot birdie putts.

sorry Kieran123, as you're well aware by reading this forum, your score of 79 doesn't actually count -- as you were playing game-improvement irons (i believe Slingshots are rated by some as Super-Duper-Ultra-Mega Game Improvement Irons), nor a multilayer premium urethane covered ball (i think the Nike Power Distance has the same backspin as an 8-lb fluorescent pink Brunswick bowling ball--wait, take that back, as i read the Brunswick has a softer core).

;)

congrats...i hope to join the 70's club this season perhaps!

Well, its a 48* PW, with a relatively strong tailwind I thought it would get there, but it doesn;t matter, I made the putt luckily enough

I played Boulder creek over in Langdon
