Just wondered what would be the average or usual amount of Pars for high handicappers,or birdies for that matter.
My best number of birdies in a single round was 2,both coming on the front 9.
Today I had 5 pars over the 18 which is one of my best,I think 6 pars for 18holes is my best to date,on that day I had 4 pars from the first 6 holes, and two then on the back 9.

High handicappers, pars are usually few and far between. Most high handicappers have issues with there swings that causes them to waste shots before reaching the green. to basically get par, most people have to hit greens in regulation. I would say high handicappers get 2-3 pars per round at most.

For mid handicappers, it can be a mix of pars and bogeys or one bad hole. It gets tough once you try to get into single digits, thats really making every shot count.

I agree, 2-3, maybe 4 pars at the most on a normal day.

I'd say 1-3 depending on the weather, wind, temperature, etc.

Unfortunately I fit the billing as a high handicap, but it's slowly coming down.

I usually make 5-7 pars per 18 holes. I just checked and my average for par over my last 10 rounds is 5.7 per 18. I had two rounds where I only made 3 which brought the average down.

Birdies??? fogetaboudit!!! I make a birdie about 1 per 27 holes. The most I've made in a round is 3.

How are you only a 16.8 handicapper?

are you really inconsistent or something? I make 7 pars a round and the odd birdie, I rarely drop a shot.

In a word yes. Inconsistent is a great way to describe my game although I'm slowly coming around. LOL

This thread got me to checking and I average 3.5 doubles per round and 1.6 triples per round. Pretty sad really. My problem is the occasional fat/duffed shot and the penalty stroke off the tee.

The relation of "number of pars" and "current index" boils down to your volatility.

If you are a bogey golfer because you three-jack half the greens and miss the other half your index will be in the high teens and you will see perhaps a single par on the average card.

However if you are a bogey golfer because you routinely card five or more scores over 7 you will probably also be seeing 6-10 pars on your card to compensate.

On an average day I shoot anywhere from 1-4 birds.
I did shoot par for my course once, and thought I was Tiger. Haha

Really there is no set number, it is very inconsistent. Though I can tell you which holes I am more likely to birdie, or par.

This year I have been having 7-9 pars per round, then an occasional birdie, then the rest bogeys and the occasional double

That's me! I can't hit a GIR to save my life. Pull the "right" club, and inexplicably come up short. Try to compensate next time, and instead go long. Or hit the right distance pin-high, but left or right. (sigh)

If I had 5 blow-up holes per round, I would slit my wrists!

In 20-land, I get 4-6 pars a round, and a birdie every other round. It's those 2 triple bogies per round that kill me. (Yes, and a couple of doubleBs)

I once shot 8-over for nine with five pars. (yes, four doubleBs also)

My most likely blowup holes are the same now as when I started - short par 4s with tricked up pin placements.

Same in number, perhaps, but probably not in severity...

Exactly - more 5s and 6s than 8s and 9s, but they feel just as bad.

    • Day 212 3-17 Flow work and arching. Hit some foam balls. Recorded
    • Im struggling to hit a 3 wood any distance. Im 67 now and used to use a 3 wood all the time. My swing speed with the 3 woods is between 80-84. I am only 5'5" tall. I currently have 4- 3 woods in my used club selection. I have an old Titliest 910FD, a Taylormade Sim2, a PXG gen 4 and a Ping G430. None of these can i hit more than 180 yards and often much shorter. My driver which is a Ping G430 I hit about 210-225. Heres the crazy thing, I carry a Taylormade Sim2- 7 wood that I hit 175-185. I carry an older titliest H1 Hybrid 23* that i hit 165-175. All yardages are with carry. When i hit both the Hybrid and the 7 wood they feel like very solid strikes yet I never feel like i hit any of these 3 woods solid. All of these clubs have regular shafts of different manufacturers. I would like to be able to hit a 3 wood 200 yards. Im thinking I need to start playing with shafts, Maybe even shorten them some. I have equipment to pull shafts and set swingweights and reglue. I have a bunch of reg flex old driver shafts that i could shorten. My driver, 7 wood and Hybrid are all D3 Swingweight. The 3 woods are D3 as well.  Where would you start? Thanks Rod
    • This was a great read from start to finish. Ive been watching the LAB putters for 3 or 4 years now. Ive never been a good putter and Ive worked at putting but i just dont seem to get better at it. I play at least 3 times a week with a 11.6 Hdcp and i have owned probably 20+ putters over my last 10 years. Ive even tried the broomstick putters which at first I thought helped but as time went on i missed just as many putts. For me it comes down to nerves which i struggle to control when putting. I always feel like i have someone leaning over me watching my every move when i putt. I had a friend I play with this fall go get fitted for a LAB and he came back all excited, he bought one and he was already a player that probably averages 32 putts a round. So i think I would say hes a good putter. I used his putter a few times and the feeling i get compared to my putter which right now is a Ping Vault 2.0 Piper and just before that an Evnroll ER5v and before that Spyder Ghost........anyway the feeling I notice was that i can take the putter back without it twisting some. At least thats the feeling i get. I dont know if i would be a better putter with a LAB putter but after this year i will know as I went and was fitted and have one on the way. I can only hope it makes a differnce. If not ive got plenty of putters to fall back on!  Rod
