In normal circumstances, Elin and the kids would be with him, but considering she is a bit pissed off, she and the kids aren't around.

You WERE trying to be funny with that statement, weren't you? I guess it was his georgous hunk of a wife that caused him to run around with cheap, ugly dogs all around this globe. Good grief!

No, I really, really don't hate Tiger. I just believe that if he is getting a cold shoulder from the same ones that used to thing is was a wholesome, upstanding guy, he's reaping what he, himself, has caused. No one else can be blamed for HIS actions, and for someone to make the statement that "It's not his fault" is pretty ridiculous. It's no one's fault but his. As far as his golf game, I've watched his swings many times, trying to learn from it. I don't hate the guy, but I'm also not one of these that thinks that the sucky morality of this world today is not hurting our society as a whole. The more people accept this kind of behavior from the ones in the spotlight, and keep these people on their pedestal, the more it seems to premote it, and the further down the toilet we go. As far Tiger in general,

as with anyone that seems to have their name mentioned in every other sentence by announcers, I do get tired of hearing it.

I'm pretty sure Tiger blames himself for his personal problems.

I agree wholeheartedly, but would ask you the following questions:

1. Who put him on the pedastal for his supposed *morality* and why? 2. Since we're talking about taking personal responsibility, shouldn't people who invested emotionally in the moral fibre of someone who *they do not know at all* take the responsbility for that instead of foisting it on Tiger who, by all accounts, never CLAIMED he was a great father or husband or asked to be a role model in that regard?
As far Tiger in general, as with anyone that seems to have their name mentioned in every other sentence by announcers, I do get tired of hearing it.

I am way past that point myself, too. Enough with Tiger...let him play himself back into contention first and in the interim let's hear a little bit more about the other people who play the sport.

The problem is, Tiger did say he wanted to be a role model. If I can find the quote I will post it. But when I saw it back when this all came out in November I was surprised.

I've seen that too, pxc. Everyone wants to be a roll model when they are heading to the top, but when they screw up and fail at that dream they thought they could achieve, there's always the public that holds them up and starts making excuses for them.

Don't put the shoe on if it doesn't fit. Not the one I'm looking for but here's one of his quotes that tells people that his talent is not what should matter:
Achievements on the golf course are not what matters, decency and honesty are what matter. Tiger Woods

Here's the one that I was referring to:

If you are given a chance to be a role model, I think you should always take it because you can influence a person's life in a positive light, and that's what I want to do. That's what it's all about. Tiger Woods

In Tiger's defense. He has almost single handedly brought Golf into the mainstream. With all respect to Arnie and Jack the general sports enthusiast has never followed a Golfer like they got behind Tiger Woods....

I like the banner they flew over th Open Sunday, in case you missed it it read "Tiger, are you my Daddy?" Pretty bush league. But on the other hand so were Tigers actions.

O snap! I completely forgot about that plane that flew over. We were standing right next to the 17th and 4th tees, right where the players walked by after finishing up #3 and saw that fly over - bunch of people started laughing. Forgot about it till just reading that! Perhaps it was the beers making me forget...

Another good poke at Tiger we heard - we were sitting in the grandstand by the 7th green Saturday morning waiting for the players to arrive at that hole. A guy standing at the bottom yelled out a women's name, waited a few seconds searching the grandstands, then yelled "I'm looking for my wife". A voice then yelled back "She's with Tiger!" making the entire grandstand give a good chuckle. Too easy not to laugh.

You must be under 30 yrs old to make such an amazingly inaccurate statement.

Have you ever heard the term 'Arnie's Army'? How about "the shot heard around the world" ?

What I have never really understood is why humans must "follow" anyone? Or why they must only follow whoever is winning at the time.
I think all this has a lot to say about the followers (or non-followers) mental make-up and personality.

I still don't get the point of roll models. Why don't people just pick out all of the good things they see in people (different people, more than one) and emulate those things. You don't need to shadow someone 100%. Hell, I looked up to Tiger Woods as a kid. Because he was the world's best golfer. And because I like golf. Never did I trick myself into thinking he was the world's nicest person.

He's a pro golfer, WHO CARES!!?? What other promise did he break...to not use his Titleist putter this year?

That shouldn't be the only concern.

It really isn't politcal. It is a nutjob with a tinfoil hat on spewing nonsense.

"Looking into the mirror"

if you really believe what you wrote earlier, you are extremely willfully ignorant. if you care to know why PM me.

Confusion seems to be the norm these days.

He could have had a birthday PARTY for her when he returned. What, now he can't play golf on days like that because his kid's birthday will sometimes fall during the U.S. Open?

Ah yes. It's not our problem or issue. Especially since we don't have the true....Facts. "who cares".

"Looking into the mirror"

What conspiracy theory nonsense have I spewed? A direct link would be appropriate here.

Bruce Lietzke seldom played in the U.S.Open, even though he qualified, because it interfered with his children's Little League season. He is a rare example of a tour golfer giving up a chance at the big enchilada for his family, but it has to be rare. Part of being a tour golfer is conflicts like this and resolving them in the right way and in the right time. This must happen to many of them, not just Woods. You know I don't bow down at the Throne of Tiger, (see the U.S. Open thread) but this cut is just unnecessary.

    • I don't follow the LIV tour so for starters somebody would have to tell me that they are coming. Even if tickets were free I probably wouldn't go. I'm just not interested.  I've been to a fair amount of PGA Tour Tournaments in my life. I've even attended two US Opens... One men's, and one women's. I've been to college and high school tournaments as well.  I'd actually be more interested in attending a Korn Ferry Tournament or an Epson Tour Tournament. Which reminds me the Nationwide Chlidren's Hospital Championship in September is right down the street. I should get tickets.
    • LIV golf was pretty close to me in 2023, at the same course that hosted the 2023 Senior PGA.  I didn't go to either one.  I do know a few people who went to the LIV event, and they said it was pretty well attended and pretty well run.  If I had free tickets, I might show up, but I'd probably have to drive 10 miles to park to get a shuttle to come back to within 5 miles of my house.
    • As long as "in town" means a drive of less than an hour, I'd probably go.  I've never actually been to a pro golf event, so it would be a novelty. Presumably, they'd be playing on a course that I'm not normally allowed to visit, so there would be an interest in just going to see the place. My tolerance for traffic is pretty minimal, so if massive headaches are predicted it would dampen my enthusiasm.
    • I would definitely buy tickets and go watch a round or two.
