Steve Stricker is the perfect example of a player that has minimal lag and great playing ability.

Looks like a good deal of lag to me, but of course not as much as the longest hitters on tour.

Honestly, you only posted this topic to be an "attention •••••." You know the picture looks good so you want people to compliment you. When someone says it doesn't really matter you respond back with short quips about you only asked about lag and nothing else. Honestly, I'm fairly certain a lot of golf swings will look like that with a good camera and a halfway decent swing. The real question is it maintained at impact - do your hands lead? Odds are probably not because you are one of those "look at me" people who need attention on internet forums to get through the day.

Don't suppose you can suggest any other good forums to berate people on. Looks like fun.

Have you honestly read any of this thread? I believe if you did you'd understand where I'm coming from. By the way, know any other topics I can post no help in I want to be as cool as you. It looks like fun.

Guys, it seems it has got a little out of hand here. What I wanted to know is if my lag needed work, or not, and if not, then I would've kindly asked for tips to help better achieve lag. If it looked like I was coming here for attention, then sorry, that was not the intention. But from the looks of it, some of you would rather try to degrade a user and act like an incompetent a**-hat here than not say anything remotely helpful at all. It's called a gentleman's sport for a reason fellas, it obviously looks like there's people out there who still don't realize that. And, it sure looks like some of you should try getting off your high horse sometime, and maybe try to learn to read thread titles a little better.

You seem mad, and I'm okay with that. Thanks for the reply. If you are requesting a picture of my hands at impact so you can review further, than I will gladly do so, if you actually are trying to help.

Couldn't agree more. That's the one thing I try to avoid most in my life. People who's attitudes bring you down just by being around them. I can't stand when people come at me with smart ass condescending remarks, especially when it's something I genuinely need help with.

Is it that hard for someone who actually knows what they are talking about to come on here and say "Lag really isn't that important, it's just an indication of how fast you're hands go through the downswing as well as how strong your wrist cock is and how long you can hold it for. Shaft flex also plays a role." That's as best as I can describe it (even though that answer is likely somewhat wrong and not that detailed). But at least I was trying to help you learn something without being condescending. Now, can somewhat who knows what they are talking about help this guy out? Give him any sort of feedback somewhat relevant to his original question?

Yeah, the answer here is "nothing can be said." It's a picture, and there's some lag, yes, but none of that really matters. Lag comes naturally through good mechanics. Trying to create lag is a dead end. In fact, you can tell more about a swing with the position of the club after the strike than before.

Thanks for the reply, my instructor and I have been working on a certain ball flight/distance for a week or so now and the number one thing we're trying to do is implement an order of mechanics in my swing that will result my hands ahead of the ball at impact, and he mentioned the lag that I would generate from this would be a contributor to power. I agree 100% that trying to "force" lag is no bueno, in fact, forcing anything in the swing is probably not good... but through step by step changes we've been doing in my swing is and has definitely helped progress everything. Nevertheless, thanks for the response.

But to those that say lag is natural and shouldn't be "forced" well you have to be a little more detailed. Lag isn't "natural", it's achieved by a fast and efficient arm swing with strong wrist cock until the club shaft is parallel in the downswing.

Think about it, if you swing you're hands and arms through fast and powerfully yet resist bringing the club head with it, what do you create? Lag..and power.. as far as club head speed is concerned, not so much ball striking ability.

Is this more or less right?

It definitely happens everywhere, every forum has their share of internet keyboard warriors and I unfortunately attracted a few. But it doesn't really bother me, I just feel somewhat bad that I made someone out there spend their time actually trying to bring me down, they probably could've done something better with their time. What you said if lag is just an indication of how fast my hands are going then I will definitely be spending more time looking at my hands at impact, etc.

Appreciate your time.

Dude, be serious for a second. I don't like to be an ass, but "critique my lag?" I've made my share of mistakes on here, and one of them was to think I was better than I was, trying to show off in videos and pictures. You can post a picture of a bent shaft, and a lag angle, but in reality, there's absolutely nothing we can tell you about it except to marvel at how pretty your lag is. That's the truth.

You have to understand that on the internet, people will always spew venom. It's fun for me, because in reality, I almost never get lip due to my large stature. On the internet, I get to be a small, scrawny wimp for a while. Take it in stride.

I expressed my confusion about the mixed messages coming from threads on this forum regarding lag so I did read it, did contribute and hardly attempted to look cool in doing so.

Would you not agree that what is often more irritating than someone who makes an unbelieveable claims is those people that feel the need to say so! The people who feel the need to speak are the reason distance topics go for 300 pages!

I thought the picture of the lag was awesome regardless of his motivation and he has indicated his motivation so thats fine by me. I believe him.

i love threads that go for 300 pages. thats wat makes this forum a discussion forum...discussions.

i wouldn't come to this forum if it was just one massive circle jerk, telling eachother we all look great.

This +1. Sir Ryan, I'm apologize if I came off too harsh, but the fact of the matter is you think I'm spending time out of my day to come down to you when I see 3 more posts of yours still talking about my post. Who's spending their time as a "keyboard warrior" now? And just so I can be clear and concise about what I'm talking about.

Here: I made someone out there spend their time actually trying to bring me down, they probably could've done something better with their time. Here: Guys, it seems it has got a little out of hand here. What I wanted to know is if my lag needed work, or not, and if not, then I would've kindly asked for tips to help better achieve lag. You posted one in which you quoted me right after this post, you could had just quoted me in this one. The point is you could had easily posted a video of your swing and then asked about lag that way. I would have had no problems with doing it that way. Yet, instead you showed one picture of a part of the swing that we can't really tell if that lag is doing anything. Hell I could look like that if I wanted to, but does that mean I'm going to hit the ball well? Not even close. You came off as an "attention •••••" when you started doing this. Here is an example: Quote Originally Posted by Phil McGlenno View Post You're a 9.9. What good is great lag if you hit the ball fat, thin, and slice it? You respond back with: actually im not a 9.9, i originally put 99 and i guess you can no longer put it to 99 and they switched it to 9.9. too lazy to switch. but that is besides the point because my original post was seeking feedback on my lag, not my handicap. thank you Another example: man people make such a big deal about lag. Just hit the ball in the center of the clubface 4/5 times... then get the ball in the hole. the scorecard doesnt say how you make birdie or par... it just says birdie or par. I haven't played a player with beautiful lag that I haven't beaten to shreds with my somewhat simple, yet highly functional, golf swing. Sure I don't hit it shit that lovely elevator ball flight all the time, but the object of the game is to get the ball in the hole... not make it fly pretty in the air. spend the time you are spending taking pictures of your lag on the putting green... then enjoy giving the beautiful swingers an ass beating, a la walter hagen. just my two cents. Respond With: cool story man, but ive already understood that concept all along. i made it a personal goal to work on lag for a certain ball flight/distance, it's just what i wanted. i'm 17, it's not like i spent years working on lag. more like a a week or so. of course those other elements of the game highly contribute to scoring, lag is just something, once again, i wanted to implement in my swing. If you really really wanted honest advice, feedback, and help you would had posted a video of a swing. Nope you just wanted to show people how cool your swing can look when you take a picture of it with a camera with a high rate of FPS and when people weren't saying how kick ass and dank you looked you got pissed. So I ask kindly, go back to your super cool bra friends, while you drink some Smirnoff Ice's and play Bro's Icing Bros because this forum is for helping, learning and teaching, not telling some jerkoff high schooler how sweet his lag looks.

    • Completing your first 2 holes in 9 strokes then taking 48 to complete the next 7 is wild.
    • I had some great moments today, but some garbage as well. Today was my first swing of any club this years.  Hit the range and simply pounded all but 1 shot on target with reasonable distance for me.     first hold wax aboar 5.  I crushed my drive and 3-hybrid and was 6” off the front in too.  Putting was lackluster and I got par 2nd hole par 4 intoning regulation but left my birdie putt 2 “ short, shells then fell off and finished the front 9 with a crappy 57. Back 9 was better with nothing worse than bogey on all holes until #16 when I took a 10 on a par 4. 🤬.  Finished ok and shot 51 on back 9. 108 is garbage but there were a lot of good shots so I have hope. I was frustrated that I ghought my Shot Scope was charged, it was not
    • I like Justin Rose and I wouldn’t mind seeing him win another major, I just didn’t want him to win this one 😃
    • I think Rose might have the most zeroed out putting stroke of anyone out there, although as golfing superpowers go that would be one of the most useless.
    • That pre-swing routine tho.. 🤓
